Alaska has 2/3rd more people registered to vote than live in the state. How can this be. Easy, all the military that come here. Most go down and register to vote to make themselves eligiable for the Permanent Fund Dividend. Then as long as they are registered to vote here and claim Alaska as their home of record, and they return at least once every two years, they continue to receive the Dividend. The ones that don't plan on coming back never bother to tell the state they moved away and are still on the books as a registered voter. People die out of state, and since most Alaskans are from out of state originally the family has them buried back where they came from. No one thinks to notify the state of Alaska to have them removed from the voter roles.
Alaska is looking at a way to purge the voter registration roles. Last year Sky and I went down to change out voter affiliation. On a whim I had them check on my eligiability to vote in Anchorage. They found me listed twice in Anchorage at two different addresses, and once in Eagle River. I had to sign a form to get me removed from those addresses. Then twice here in North Pole. Once from back in the 70s when I lived with my Ex, then at the current location.
Bet I'm still registered in Nevada, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Florida, and Tennessee. Will have to check that out someday.
