CZ 75b 9 mm What weight bullet
« on: June 03, 2012, 04:53:07 AM »
I just purchased my first 9mm ever ( CZ 75 b) and after shooting 150 rounds of 115 gr through it am not impressed with the accuracy.  I'm looking at a 16 round group fired from 15 yards that barely stayed on a 5 x 7 index card. This was fired offhand, two hand hold, slow fire.  Tried my .45 and the group closed down considerably so it's not me.  The only ammo available localy is the 115 gr so that's all I've ran through it to date.  Anyone out there have experience with the 124 or 147 gr bullets in a CZ 75?

My best groups come with the 147 gr.  But, mine shoots well with 124 too.  The 115's do ok but the groups seem to shrink with heavier bullets.

Thank you.  Good to hear the heavier weights shoot better than the 115's in yours.  Is it a CZ 75?  It's been 40+ years with .45 autos, I never jumped on the 9mm craze in the 1980s or the 10mm/40 cals in the 90s, just kept with the .45 and added to the numbers of pistols but never experimented with other calibers.

Mine's not the "b" model either .Not sure if it was me or the gun but after 150-200 rounds it's started grouping all weights considerably better.Best load so far has been 147 grain xtp.For just general shooting I've settled  on a Berry's 124 grain plated .

That's what I'm starting to find out too.  I'm at about 300 rounds and did locate one box of 124 gr and one of 147 gr.  The 124s shoot about 4" left and 5 to 6" higher than the 115s.  The 147s about 4" left and string the shots vertically.  It's either breaking in or has a liking for 115 gr Federals as they shoot 1" above poa and just chew out a nice tight group.  Feeling better about this gun now, at first I really had my doubts.

Interesting....I found the bulk Federal 115 grain to shoot the best of the factory loads I've tried however mine shoots close to same POI with all loads....slightly higher as weight increases.

Since I started this thread, figured I'd touch back with the latest findings on this handgun.  It really likes factory Federal 115 gr bullets.  Has some distinct dislikes too.  Went the loop with 124 and 147gr factory loads and none shoot as well as the 115 Federals.  Still places 124s 4" left and 4-5" higher, the 147s go 4" left and string vertically.  I did not go into details earlier but this gun was going to be an informal fun shooter, plinker, bolling pins and I didn't plan on loading for it..... was going to shoot cheap factory loads everyone was talking about.

I bought a set of 9MM dies, stayed with powders on hand, and obtained a trial pack of bullets from Berrys Bullets for $6.00 to cover the postage.  It likes the 115 gr Berrys flat points over a mild charge of WW 231. Shoots them as well/better than the factory Federals.  I like the Berrys load, shoots well, plated bullets are priced competively, and they are available directly from the manufacturer.  From what others have said, they're always available from Berrys so I'll stick with them as the regular load.  Availability these days is a big factor.

Also tried 115 gr Speer Gold Dots and unique. This load shoots better than anything tried so far, however the cost of 100 Gold Dots is about the same as 250 Berrys and Berrys pays the haul to your door.
