Will the 60 gr Partition stabilize in a 1:12 twist barrel?

If you are lucky. It works OK with most all 55s and some of them with plastic tips are as long or longer than the 60 PT.

they stabilize in my 1-12 ar our to at least 200 yards. I havent tried them past there. I do shoot them with top end charges though as i use them for deer and wth the 22 caliber guns i feel i want as much as i can get out of them. I dont know how they do with slightly reduced charges and i only have one ar that is 1-12 so I cant say for sure. I know of at least one guy that posted on here that he couldnt get them to stabilize in a 1-12 22250 even at top end velocitys so id say if anything there going to be marginal.

I shoot the 65 gr Sierra Gameking out of a 223 with a 26" barrel. They make a clean hole out to 400 yds. Dont know how the two bullets compare though. Good luck.

I have not been at all lucky with this bullet in my Rem Lite Varminter (LVSF) which has a 22" 1 in 12 barrel.  I actually got keyholing at 25 yards...and destroyed mu skyscreens on my oehler chrono in the process.

How about a 1 in 8 twist?

Well of course. I have a 1/8 that shoots 55-77 gr. very well, some 1/8 twist will shoot even the light bullets well

I have shot the 70gr Speer semi spitzer bullet in my 1 in 12" Ruger 77 mk2 and the same load in my Browning (1 in 12") Micro Medallion up to 200 yards and never seen a keyhole with neither one of them.  I used 25gr of H4895, WSR, and 70gr SMPZ speer.  Right about 2900 fps or so.
I have used the 60gr Nozler, 64gr win PP, 65gr boat tail gameking, and other, including cast and not one time have I seen a keyhole in both of those rifle.
I have a Rossi single shot that when I shoot any cast bullets, I get for sure at least one keyhole per group of 5-shot.

Yes!

Will the 60 gr Partition stabilize in a 1:12 twist barrel?

My daughter uses my T/C Encore rifle in 223 Remington which has a 1-12” rifling twist and 24" barrel.

I hand load Hornady`s .224 diameter 60 grain spire point for practice and Nosler`s .224 diameter 60 grain Partition for deer.

I use H-4895 and achieve exceptional accuracy out to 300 yards on paper, but allow her to shoot deer only within 100 yards which is the normal range on my mother in-law's upper Michigan farm.

I am not surprised by either, but this little Nosler 60 grain Partition bullet so far gives complete pass through performance and awesome blood trail that a 12 year old can easily follow up to the expired game.

One thing you have to keep in mind is that its not a target bullet. If your gun shoots 1/2 moa groups its like not going to with partitions. The gun ive used them in most is a custom ar that i hunt with. It will do 1/2moa with bullets like 60 grain vmaxs with partitions its moa or maybe a bit more. Plenty good enough for deer hunting though.

This may be a little off topic, but how well does a game bullet that small perform on deer?

I would think that this bullet is intended for the heart/lung area.  Most hunters consider the 243 game bullets to already be minimal for this.

I have seen many a deer go right down when hit by a 224 varmint bullet high on the neck.  If it were me, I would go for the accuracy and the neck shot.

Hmmm...I think I'll give them another try this weekend.  Maybe I'll be surprised by a different powder.  I have a chance to hunt a few small exotics this fall and a 223 would be fun to use.  I'll report if I have any success!

the Sierra 55gr gameking https://www.sierrabullets.com/index.cfm?section=store&page=item&stock_num=1365 would also be an excellent choice.
As would the Barnes tsx bullets in a 45 to 53gr weight. http://www.barnesbullets.com/products/components/rifle/tsx-bullet/
If you can get the 60gr partition to group well it is a great bullet as well.

I wait for a broadside heart/lung shot for any rifle cartridge, but I also have taken neck shots. Varmint bullets have no place in big game hunting.

The 243 Winchester has been drug through the mud more than any other bottleneck cartridge as a minimum or less then stellar for deer and each and ever year it continues too put venison on the table.

I have personally used my 243 Winchester for deer and antelope out too 300 yards with my hand loaded Nosler 100 grain Partition bullets and all were complete pass through performance and 100% recovered animals.

My daughter uses my Thompson Center Encore rifle in 223 Remington using my hand loaded Nosler's .224 diameter 60 grain Partitons with H-4895 all broadside heart/lung shots under 100 yards, complete pass through and 100% recovered animals. Excellent performance from Nosler's venerable Partition which is not surprising.

Ive shot a few game animals with them and they did fine. If your gun does have a bit of problems stabilizing them one thing to try is to push them as hard as you can. the extra velocity might be enough to make a differnce. My ars tend to shoot them best at max velocitys.

I use the federal premium load with the Partition  out of my CZ 527 carbine(18 inch barrel) with a 1-12 .and at up to a hundred and fifty yards which is far as i have shot it this combo produces less than 1.5 inch groups or less and with no keyholing. This with a leupold 2x scope and heavy crosshairs shot resting either across a truck hood or out the truck window.

I just loaded some 60 gr partitions to shoot out of my Noveske AR-15 that has a 16 inch 1 in 7 twist barrel.  It shot 55 gr Nos BT's just fine and I expect it will do fine with the Partitions.  Heading to the range this weekend.
