Hi all! A newbie with some questions. I'm looking for any pet handloads for a 7mm-08 encore with a 15" barrel. Also any scope suggestions would be appreciated. It will be used for deer hunting. Thanks, Trussman

40.0 grains of H-4895 with a 140 Gr. Nosler Bal. Tip gave me a 2540 MV with a 14 inch barrel and 100 yards groups under 1/2 inch.

I've been pleased with VV550 in my 15" bbl, good velocity and accuracy. Varget and IMR 4064 are other ones that also seem to work well as with the above mentioned H-4895.
I have a Leu 2X mounted on mine and like it quite a bit, it isn't so much that you can't hold fairly steady without a rest although I use a neck sling. A 4X is ok if you have a good rest and better for target work. I think 3X would be about right. Havent tried a variable yet but....

In a 15" handgun the 7mm08 is probably my favorite round and I've played around with and or own a few handguns or barrels in the chambering.

15" TC factory Encore barrel #1;

Remington brass....WLR primers....41.5gr of IMR4064....130gr Sierra #7250 SSP.

15" TC factory Encore barrel #2;

Remington brass....WLR primers....38.5grs of Hodgdons BLC-2....130gr Sierra #7250 SSP.

12 1/2" Virgin Valley heavy (1" o.d.) Encore barrel;

Remington brass....CCI BR-2 primers....40.0grs of Hodgdons Varget....130gr Sierra #7250 SSP.

Remingon XP-100 #1;

Remington brass....WLR primers....42.0grs of Hodgdons Varget....130gr Sierra #7250 SSP.

Remington XP-100 #2;

Same data as above but 41.0grs of Varget.

Savage Striker;

Remington brass....WLR primers....40.5grs of Hodgdons Varget....130gr Sierra #7250 SSP.

I just received a 15" Fox Ridge heavy barrel in .284 Winch. (sort of a 7mm08 on steriods) that I'm playing with now and judging by load teting so far it may very well end up nudging the 7mm08 into 2nd place as my favorite handgun cartridge........we'll see.
