Ed was a local curmudgeon writing freelance and in the Denver Post. Born in Evans, lived in Salida. As a Colorado native, old hippy, and keen observer of history he had many pointed columns on such hings as high speed rail from Denver to the ski resorts (one mag-lev proposal would have cost $10 million per FOOT) bringing water all the way from Utah or Wyoming to feed (as he called it) the Front Strange (Fort Collins to Colorado Springs along the front range of mountains). He was champion for naming a state parasite (giardia), and a state arachnid (wood tick). This was in response to the many state "things" that can get through leglislature, but nothing important can get done.
He often interviewed Ananias Ziegler, the spokesman for the "Committee that Really Runs America".
He was thoughtfully funny, had insights on human nature, and made you think, even if you didn't totally agree with him.
It was a heart attack at the age of 61 that got him. Some of his columns were about the state of health care/insurance in America for those of us with moderate income. It was ironic that health issues were what got him.
He was one of the few reasons to still read the newspaper.
