i made an oopsy
« on: June 10, 2012, 04:00:51 PM »
i had a brain fart (didn't check my notes) and crimped some bullets in with a lee fcd, the results increased group size from 1.5in to appr. 6in. and me like an ass loaded a whole box my question is could i use my impact puller to just start the bullet moving and then reseat with no crimp?

I use collet pullers for crimped ammo but I always resize the cases before reseating.  I tried reseating bullets w/o resizing and accuracy wasn't good.  I think it was because the neck tension varied.

Bang 'em out with impact bullet puller (< 200) or collet puller if the number of rounds is > 200 (say).  That's a lot of impact for plastic and they will eventually shatter.  I am on my third impact pullet (that's also an indication of changing one's reloading mind...).

I don't think you'll get enough of the crimp out that way , odds are that the crimp will just roll itself right back into place as you re-seat the bullet . Just how many rounds are we talking about here ? 20 , 50 ? And they Handgun or Rifle ?  If Handgun , just hammer them out and then run them back through the sizer with the de-capping pin raised up so as to not punch the primer and start over .

I know its a lot of work , or you could just shoot them up and then start over .  ???   ;)   ;D   >:(   :o

I've done it like Stimpy suggests, taking the decapping pin out and the powder out of the case.  I have used my mallet style puller to extend COL some and then re-seated the bullet to change seating depth.  If you are removing the bullet though, do it the first method.
