Forend mounting lug sheered off 12ga barrel...have a question.

Hey guys,


Yesterday the forend mounting lug sheered off while shooting my Topper 12 ga barrel.  I'm wondering what/if anything can be done to repair this.  I've thought that perhaps TIG welding might work since it doesn't get as hot as other types of welding.  I know I can get another barrel but I'd like to salvage this one if possible.  Thanks for your thoughts.

Being its a shotgun barrel you could MIG or TIG it back on.

Yes TIG is preferred for firearms but it's NOT lower temp. Just better controlled.

You always may have the option of returning it to H&R for repair also.  ;)

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback.  There's a welding shop close by so I'll ask what they would charge to do it.  I only paid $50 for the barrel so I don't want to sink too much into it.

Haven't had a Handi shear off, but the snap on hook type latch on an old Stevens 16 ga. popped off.  I took it to a welding shop and 5 minutes later it was back on and good as new.  I am sure the cooler tig welder will hold it on for ya.  UMMV of course.

I broke the foreend stud off my good friend 357 Mag Nickled Plated Handygun II. :o   I had it TIG welded back on and the repair was fine.

Before I welded myself, I would grab a 6pack of good beer and hed down to the muffler shop about closing time... Ask for the manager, show him I needed a small weld and ask if he would allow one of the guys to weld it for me at closing for the beer... Never had one turn me down...

My point, its a very small easy weld, should not be costly.
