building a 50 cal cannon

   hi i am new at building cannons i as wondering what charge should be used for 1st test fire this is only a signal cannon  spec are 316 s/s  barrel  1in od   with .500 hole 5in depth overall length 6  1/8  in  machined from solid round stock         I will never fire musket balls only paper wads !!!!       what should be max charge???         for max noise with paper                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                thanks for all help

Welcome to the board.
Is the barrel you are attempting to make a piece of round bar with a hole in it?  Please look at the thread posted below.  That also was a piece of stainless round bar with a hole in it.
Nobody died.  Be careful my friend.  You may not be the only person to ever fire it.
