Racism... Define it!
« on: June 13, 2012, 04:07:45 AM »
I guess it depends on the color of the person making comments about another's race!
Take Cris Rock for example!  Sorry for using that line! I wouldn't wish him on my worse enemy.

I think the official definition of "racism" has been changed to "Racism is not agreeing with Obama's vision, his policies,  or the direction he is taking our country in."

In my experience, racism is what whites are accused of and what all the other colors practice.

Racism is that offended feeling you get when you encounter a white man.

Racism is......
« Reply #5 on: June 13, 2012, 03:18:51 PM »
the nation's first black president calling Americans "bitter clingers to guns and religion who have an antipathy towards people who are different from them".

Racism is.......Eric Holder, a black man, having his office file lawsuits against white state governors and sheriffs alleging civil rights violations, while refusing to prosecute the Black Panthers for voter intimidation at a precinct with a visual presence of white people.

There it is, all laid out........

Racism defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary (paperback edition):a belief that some races are by nature superior to others; also-discrimination based on such belief.

From Websters College Dictionary Fourth Edition: 1) belief in or doctrine asserting racial differences in ones character, intelligence, etc. and the superiority of one race over another or others: racist doctrine also typically seeks to maintain the supposed purity of a race or the races. 2) any program or practice of racial discrimination, segregation, etc. specifically such a program or practice that upholds the political or economic domination of one race over another or others. 3) Feelings or actions of hatred* or bigotry** toward a person or persons because of their race.

*Hatred: Strong dislike or ill will.
(example: towards a person or persons of a particular race, in other words based on sighted color or race.)

**Bigotry: The behavior, attitudes or beliefs of a bigot***: intolerance, prejudice

***Bigot: 1) A person who holds blindly and intolerantly to a particular creed, opinion etc. 2)A narrow-minded, prejudiced**** person. -Synonym: Zealot.

****Prejudiced... well it just gets deeper and deeper and uglier and uglier and it surfaces in all of us from time to time.

It's up to the INDIVIDUAL to take the higher ground and stay above it.

But so far as I understand the literal definition, any reference to an individual or individuals (that includes reference to race or color) can, from a defined perspective, be considered racial or RACISM.

There it is PEOPLE; in plain, literally  DEFINED "Queens" ENGLISH.

But seeing as so many seem to have their own definitions, it is easy to understand how we fail to see the "racism" in all of our own selves.

Ah well,.... ;)  Obviously, racism is when somebody is critical or contentious with another person's or group's actions and transgressions based on some identity.... ;) ;D ;)  Then that person is obviously a 'racist'.. :o ::)
.
Actually, imo, racism is or happens when one set of beliefs, creed-color, or religion is said to be superior to another's to be  held inferior, or in contempt, or in hatred and as a threat
.
Rock is a comedian...he pokes fun at stuff--that's his job...sometime he gets people to think outside the envelope...like in post #1
.
.
...TM7

I see Rock as a blatant racist that uses comedy as a vehicle to get his racist points across!
Like the whiteness comment. If a white comedian had said the same, only forgiving the Blackness in him, he would be reading the (help wanted section of his local paper the next day). This is a fact! We see it often. I don't see him as trying to get people to think outside the envelope. I see him as someone that takes advantage of our politically correct system, to spew his racism.

Richard Prior used to lay into everyone including his own. NW may be correct about Chris Rock. His earlier material did not always push beyond the boundry of "equal racism" (if you will).

I, myself, am what I like to refer to as a "human racist" as I like to promote the superiority of HUMAN BEINGS above all distinguishable colors and ethnicities i.e. whites, blacks, Americans, Germans, Mexicans Japanese etc. But it seems that there are so few adults these days who are content with simply identifying as just a HUMAN BEING (identity crisis??? :-\ ).

I guess that on a higher level, philosophically, one might be ashamed of being merely "human" (in light of the state of the world), and choose to identify as something else. Seems counter productive though.

Personally, I like to observe and laugh at PEOPLE as there are so many peculiar behaviors exhibited by all the various shapes, colors, and ethnic varieties in which they come.

Anyone that cannot laugh at their own, I feel, must have allowed an extremely rigid tungsten rod to grow where the sun don't shine. Like TM7 mentioned; "Narcissism".

However, I feel also that the humor should be spread around evenly.

But, in reference to what TM7 said, "the world isn't a fair place" and there are many ranging from the Native American, to a lynching victim in the segregated south, a civilian in Heroshima and even to Reginald Denny from the LA riots who are all too familiar with what is unfair.

Chris Rock's style has definitely changed over the years and not for the better. NW Hunter may well be correct about him having an agenda. Or perhaps, CR is just using racism to promote his currently inadequate commedy because it would otherwise just not be funny. Signs of a dwindling career maybe? :-\

But lets face it folks, we truly make "behavioral profiles" out of ourselves and our own. But it is difficult to step outside of oneself in order to observe what other people see. Just imagine though.

 Difficult to define,
and there are many forms and degrees of racism and prejudice.

Unfortunately, black, white, brown or yellow,
we are probably all guilty of it to a greater or lesser degree at some time or another,
whether consciously or not,

either in word, thought or deed.

I'm sure also, we can all take offence to something someone has said or done, and construe it as Racist or Racism, when that was not the intention.

Problem generally arises when one is in the minority, the majority of whom are of a lesser social standing than the majority population,
a prime example being the indigenous races of many countries,
The American/Canadian Indians and Eskimos/Inuits come to mind, as well as other aboriginal races in S.America, Africa, Australasia, Europe and Asia,

and also our antipathy to immigrant communities, esp the African and Asian races, who are generally in the minority, and seen visually as being different,
and with different language and religious beliefs.

It's probably built into our psyche, from our cave dweller/hunter gatherer days, as a means of survival, and perpetuation of the species in our own form,
and we're wary of strangers !

just the rambling opinion of an old man I'm afraid, ......burn it if you wish,
I won't mind !
cheers,
SS

I agree with the above post 100% Chris Rock's intent is to stir the pot. Under the disguise of comedy.

From what I get from the flaming liberal news media. Racism is, when a white guy doesn't vote for Obama. I think there are a bunch of liberals in this country that need to grow some thicker skin.

I'm always amazed at how much racism is socially accepted by liberals, the liberal media and academia when that racism is directed at white people. The media will report on comments from "leaders of the black community" and think there is nothing racist about that. If you changed that to "leaders of the white community" all of a sudden it becomes racist.

The double standard is amazing. It's socially accepted for folks of one skin color to have "leaders" but if folks of a lighter skin color have "leaders" then they are racist.

If being a racist is being proud of ones own race, then put me on that list.  If being a racist is not giving special benefits to folks of a different skin color, put me on that list.  If calling a spade a spade is racist, put me on that list.  If calling the present occupant of the White House a c*#@s^$*tard is racist, then put me on that list.

We do have a double standard!
I guess we need a new definition of Racism in our dictionary's.
It could read......"Racism" a Negative emotional condition, caused by being born Caucasian.

I hear people say.......I'm proud of my race! Does this make one a Racist?I was  born white. I had no choice.I don't think being proud is the right word to describe my feelings on this. I am content with this!I cannot be proud of something I had no control over.Just the way it happened. If I had been born Black, I would like to think I would be contented with that fact as well. The world is full of people that are different.Nothing wrong with being different! It's wrong feeling you are better than someone else because they are different.
How about people who prefer to hang out with people the same color? Or people with the same ideology?People who like country music or Classical and hate Rap or Blues!,Or the opposite? Are they showing their racist colors? I think they are just being different..Not Racist! There is nothing wrong with being different as long as we (respect) each other's differences. When we don't, then we are practicing Racism "IMO" .

Why is it that you can't use an IQ test to determine a persons intellegence?  American blacks average 85, African blacks about 75-80, whites 100, European Jews and Asians 112.  Average was set up to be 100.  Below 60 is mentally incompetent.  Drive, ambition, and willpower can overcome IQ.  Why is this not taught in school.

I have a daughter who is going to college with an IQ of about 102.  A son with an IQ of about 130.  Son wants to party all the time and has dropped out of school.  Daughter is pushing herself to do better.

Some people with high IQ's can be under achievers, some with average or low, if they have drive can achieve in life.  I know the IQ may sound "racist" to blacks, but whites don't complain about the higher IQ's of Asians.  They just have more drive and ambition.  I'm kind of tired of blacks playing the "racist" card, when they have every advantage whites have and then some to achieve.  They just have to want to get out of the "hood" bad enough.  It is not my fault they are there.

Yeah, me to, but its just what a large number of blacks do. They don't know it, but the very people they generally vote for are hell bent on keeping them in the hood.
