Now that this has settled down a bit. This is exactly why I have a geiger counter. They are cheap, you can get one off ebay. There is every possibility that any are may be hit with excessive radiation from a nuclear disaster, even one from a long way away. It is equally likely that the residents of that area may be lied to. Sorry, but I have no faith that my government (by the elite, of the elite and for the elite) has my best interest at heart and every reason to believe they would lie to me. So, one must take care of ones self. If there is a radiation spike, stay inside 'till the weather blows it away or hop in the car and try to go elsewhere. All depends on how much there is, likely source, prevailing winds, etc. Sure, a nuke incident may well be inescapable, but some are escapable. If you only have internet rumors to go by, you have nothing. If you have the tool, you can decide what, if anything, you can do.
Now, if a member here was in that area and had a simple $50 hand held unit, this would have been laid to rest quickly. Had it been a story about eastern CT, I'd have walked outside, taken a measurement, and got back to you.
Years ago, this nation took 'civil defense' seriously. Geiger counters, fallout shelters, neighborhood civil defense co-ordinators were all part of normal society. Now that's all seen as crazy talk. Go on ebay and get yourself some vintage crazy talk gear and watch out for yourself.
