Ruger P-94 Question
« on: June 17, 2012, 10:42:18 AM »
Did some horse trading recently and ended up with some $$$ and a pretty nice looking Ruger P-94 in 40 S&W for a rifle I wanted to get rid of. All I read about this pistol is good but I just don't need a 40 cal. I see that they also came in 9mm and would actually prefer this caliber if I don't end up trading the whole outfit for another pistol I would care to keep. Can the barrel and mag be swapped out for a 9mm and does anyone ( maybe Ruger ) sell barrels for them if the swap is possible ?

Some further internet investigating tells me that although the 40 S&W cal of this pistol is marked P-94 it is actually a P-944 that only came in a 40 cal. A few internal changes were made too that may cancel out on the barrel change idea. Think I'll  just swap it for a good 357 as I really prefer a wheelgun.

Yep, the barrels swap out between 9 and 40. There is a user by the name of roylt on rugerforum.com that has done this. He's the man to follow when researching this project. Don't get rid of it before going to that forum. Even as a visitor, you can read all about his work

Thanks for the rugerforum info. I had a guy look at the P94 today and offered me a Walther P22 for it. I took him up on the trade as I've had one before and like them. Besides, I've got several big bore wheelguns for serious stuff and I'll shoot the P22 a lot more than the P94.
