anybody been saved by a headache rack?

seems like they could really save a bad day when you had to make an abrupt stop.  even little things in the back of a truck could become some dangerous projectiles.
 
amazing how many people don't strap stuff down. the stories I hear about is the V8 motor that is not tied down then sombody has to slam on the brakes....not a good scenario.
 
obviously a headache rack will not help you when you are loaded down w/rebar or pipe or whatever in the bed.

i had one on my 79 ford flatbed. it was actually pretty handy when a bunch of teenagers throwing wood on yur truk.protected the back glass for sure.

Late response here, but a friend of mine had those tubular bags of sand in the back of his truck and had to slam on his brakes at an intersection, still hit the vehicle that ran the light. He ducked his head instinctively and the tube sand came through the back window and glanced off the back of his head. Headache rack would have prevented that and if he hadn't ducked way down in that old truck, or if he wasn't only 5'8", it could have been much worse. I think they're a good idea. In a newer truck ducking down may not have helped him considering the airbag...
