A Taliban leader in Pakistan said that until the United States stops drone strikes—like the one that killed al-Qaida no. 2 Abu Yahya al-Libi earlier this month—it will ban polio vaccinations of Pakistani children in the region it controls.
"Polio drops will be banned in North Waziristan until the drones strikes are stopped," Taliban commander Hafiz Gul Bahadur said in a statement released Saturday and published Monday by CNN. "Almost every resident of North Waziristan has become a mental patient because of the drone strikes, which are worse than polio. On one hand, the U.S. spends millions of dollars to eliminate polio, while on the other hand it kills hundreds with the help of its slave, Pakistan."
UNICEF had been hoping to launch a drive this week to vaccinate 161,000 children in the region. Bahadur said he consulted with leaders of the Taliban and al-Qaida and with Punjabi leaders before making the decision to ban the vaccinations.
Pakistan's vaccination program came under scrutiny after a Pakistani doctor accused of helping the CIA locate Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad under the guise of the "door-to-door" program was sentenced to 33 years in prison for "acting against the state."
The announcement, the New York Times said, is "a blow to polio vaccination efforts in Pakistan, which is one of just three countries where the disease is still endemic and which accounted for 198 new cases last year—the highest rate in the world."
But it's doubtful that the warning will affect U.S. drone strikes. The White House has increased its drone operations under President Barack Obama. The Pakistani government has objected to the drone strikes, saying they are "a violation of Pakistan's sovereignty."

I agree. All children are innocent. If they were taken out of that primitive Taliban controlled environment and raised elsewhere they would probably grow up to be quite different.

swampman. Are you saying that we should stop the attacks that protect our troops to vaccinate their kids?? Yes, the kids there are innocent, til they grow up. Sorry dude but they should be caring for their own children instead of murdering innocents. If it were up to me I'd bring our people home and put them on the mex border. Well yes it is our business. If they grow up one way they might want to see all of us "infidels" dead and might even take an active roll in seeng that goal through. If they were to grow up another way they might learn to value other human lives and not be so quick to condemn or attempt kill others in "the name of god." Not engaging in constant wars fueled by religion will improve their well being.

LAKOTA. True, but they would still be raised by the same people. They are taught to hate from birth so they would still have their same beliefs as their parents. You would have to get them VERY young to be able to train them to be responsible adults and be a part of a civilized society. . POWDERMAN.

It's unfortunate that so many people, including children, suffer in the culturally retarded Muslim world. There a retards in Africa that rape babies because thet think it will cure aides. Looks to me like those drone attacks are becoming pretty effective. They apparently have no way to deal with it other than to threaten their own children in desperation to make it stop. The fact that he talked with and got the blessing of the Taliban, Al Qaida, and Punjab tells me enough about the character of the enemy. Keep the pressure up. It's working.

I agree with Swampman.

I see a lot of self proclaimed Christians on this forum and the moment you make them aware that they aren't acting as a true Christian should, they band together like a gang and try to beat down your comments. Not so unlike how the Taliban bands together to terrorize a local populace until their citizens no longer stand against them.

I guess you guys think that if you throw enough vebal waste at somebody's opinion they will just quit posting...

But it doesn't make me embarrased to call myself a Christian Swampman. It makes me sad that these guys actually think their living their lives in accordance to the way Jesus wants them too...

I think that some of you here just like to stir. NOBODY here said we shouldn't immunize the kids, but if it comes to that or putting American soldiers in danger then as for me the choice is simple. If they want their kids to die a horrible death, their choice because their kids mean nothing to them. I see little difference between these modern day islamists and the false God worshippers of Biblical times. When we provide FREE modern day med to these people we do it with the knowledge that they are being raised to hate us and Jews but do it anyway knowing that they will grow up to be our enemy, possibly on the battlefield.
I've seen firsthand the effects of polio on several folks as a young man and would not wish that on anybody. BUT, I would never vote to intentionally put American troops at risk by denying them all available means to do their job or protect themselves. POWDERMAN.

Gee, the equivilant of hiding behind kids while shooting at you! How very brave of them! Scuze me but just how does that make us the bad guys? It seems we are being asked to love "their" children more than "they" do. I love all children but pardon me if I love our's a bit more than their's. Here's a novel idea, lay the blame where it belongs for a change. The "Taliban" want's to ban the imunizations, not the U.S., blatantly using their peoples own children as hostages....well DUH! Blame the Taliban!

Personally, I would take the article with a grain of salt....I don't even know if there's still wide scale Polio immunization programs in effect...since the disease was essentially eradicated. Furthermore, such programs are usually channeled thru existing in country health agencies...

However, it does appear that there are pretty wide spread drone attacks....and the psychological effects of such methods seem to indeed fit the definition of 'terrorism'.

Can't say I disagree with Lakota's last statement.

TM7....Trying to insinuate that anything relating to war is humane is kinda like spitting in the wind. Eventualy it comes back and smacks you in the face. In fact more often than not! You can't fight terrorism with a handshake or well wishes. Would be nice if you could but it's a fools erron to think you even had a chance. The Taliban is as teroristic as you get and seem to love flaunting that fact while at the same time crying foul when ever the tables are turned. For some crazy reason many seem to buy into it and think they should be treated kindly while ignoring their acts of terrorism.
