Anybody have a .20 barrel in their Contender or Encore?
« on: February 03, 2004, 01:36:30 PM »
I have a T/C Encore with a .454 Casull barrel, and I want an efficient varmint barrel for it.  I'm looking at the .20 rounds, the .204 Ruger looks nice, but brass will be spendy, I'm more interested in the Tactical Twenty that Todd Kindler came up with based on a .223 case but with a 30 degree shoulder.  Does anyone have a .20 barrel in their T/C arsenal that would have any experience?  I'm looking at a custom shop job that's 16.5" long so I can use it as a pistol or a legal carbine, it sounds fun, close to 4000 fps, very little powder used, therefore very little muzzle blast and compared to my .454 Casull I'm sure very little recoil.  It's so intriguing I might have to do it!  But then where do I come up with the funds for such a project...

Hi
I have read a couple of places that T/C is going to have a .204 barrel around the middle of the year. Maybe someone else has heard more, but it sounds like another "toy" I would have to have too!!!

I read that TC would have the .204 Ruger barrels out in march. Looks like a winner to me.  KN

Selmer,
Midway has the .204 listed as comming soon. I`ve heard March also. I wouldn`y worry about brass, if you were going to from brass for the .20 Tactial you could do the same for the .204. I think that you can order one now from VV. I`ve been looking at the .19 and .20 cal. rounds for a couple of years now and had about desided on getting a .20 TNT or a .20 BR then Ruger brought out their .204.
One other thing, if your just looking for a round that will shoot falt, has no recoil, and uses ver little powder, you might want to look at the .17 AH. I`m pushing a 19 grn. Calhoon bullet at 3,600 fps. with 10.4 grns. of powder. Excellant groundhog gun out to 300 yrds., but I think it`s alittle lite for coyotes ect.

Yeah, I've looked at the .204 Ruger, it had me all excited for a while, but I'd like something a little different.  The .20 BR and the Tac Twenty have my eye right now.  The Tac Twenty more so because of the availability of high-quality brass for a low price that I can form.  The same can NOT be said for the .204 Ruger because it uses .222 Rem Magnum brass, not too common or too cheap.

Why would you want to form brass for a commercial round? I'm sure it will be available as soon as the guns start comming out.   KN

20" barrel on a handgun

Good morning Selmer,

The 20 inch barrel caught my attention when you mentioned it.  The caliber is another story, but a couple of days ago, a friend of mine showed up at the range with a 20" barrel on his Remington XP-100 in 30 BR.  It was very efficient with no muzzle blast to amount to much and very accurage.

Recoil was just negligable.  My experience with the XP100 and the center grip configuration has not always been a pleasant one.  With the longer and heavier barrel, it was a very nice shooter.

The calibers:  I don't know anything about the tiny ones.
