But my favorite cartridge IS the best cartridge!   ;D

All kidding aside ibgp, I have never understood that mindset either.  I may not agree with someone but I respect their choice and their reasoning behind their choice.  That is, if they have a reason. . .

I keep telling myself how many wars we have fought and how many I watched die so they could have their (omitted) opinion.

No reason required, and I don't have to understand, but I can  gripe about it!! :)

My old .357 belt slide re-purposed for 300BLK.

Obsolete for 40 years for a revolver.
Might use it with the Handi.

Can't do that with a 30-30!! ;D

::) This is getting like explaining color to the blind guy. D o e s  i t  h e l p   t o  s p e a k  s l o w e r ??    Why does any cartridge exist ?  More to the point, why do we need anything other than a 30/30  in the Central and Eastern time zones, or south of the Platte River ??? Answer, we don't. There is nothing large enough, that you cannot get close enough to, that is hard enough to kill, that you need anything more. OR DIFFERENT. But guys just keep coming up with stuff . Like a 7-08. Not needed. 308- not needed. 6.5 anything, not needed. Anything OVER 30 caliber........ not needed. Shall I keep going ??? MAYBE, in the northern mountain states we could let the 45/70 in. Bears and all that.  ;) 8)

I don't have any thing to do with the 300BLK existing, but...
when I saw it coming, what I saw was a 30x357.
Dies off the shelf,
...one pass brass,
...and a barrel coming that only needs a rim cut.

Why 30x357 and not 30-30?
I have 30-30's that haven't been out of the closet in decades.
The 30-30 is too big for rabbits and squirrels, and out classed (in my mind and my closet) for anything bigger.

The 30x357's may get the same rating in my closet as the 30-30's, but I plan to test them out.

I asked this on another forum but i will ask here. How well do these youth stocks work with optics? Would a cut down MC give a better cheek weld or does the youth work fine? I ask because i like the short LOP but i dont know how well it would work with a low power variable.

It should work fine as long as it is not a heavy recoiling gun.

From a range report on another site concerning a first trip to the range with a new Handi:

" 220gr pulled Sierra Match Kings,  Shot with suppressor mounted. ---9 shot group .49". 7 of the 9 shots were in one ragged hole. By far, the loudest noise was the bullet hitting the backstop."

The twist rate is printed on the barrel, (to embarrass Savage?)

I wouldn't doubt it.  If that's the case Savage deserves it after printing that press release of theirs.

Everyone knows the subsonic and heavy 220 grain loads will shoot well in a 1/7 twist, but I wonder how well supersonic lighter bullets shoot?

I suspect the throat is going to be a problem for the lighter bullet accuracy.
Jason built this cartridge to sit just off of the rifling:

That's a lot of throat.
I've got some 150gr BTHP's loaded, hopefully I can try them today.

I was afraid that would happen.
(For anyone that hasn't looked, when the Gunbroker auction was about 10 hours old the price had gone from $.01 to $370+ with 6 days left.)(+$30 shipping)

Gone crazy, for sure.

There IS a siver lining in this cloud..... if there is this kind of demand and interest it may encourage H&R to make their own run, or to produce another run through this mechanism, thereby increasing our supply and bringing down the price. Apparently there are not too many setting around on shelves, even with the substantial price they came with. ;) 8)
