Packaging issues from H&R?
« on: June 23, 2012, 02:51:07 AM »
I just received my Buffalo Carbine back from H&R after having a 22 Hornet and a 20 Gauge Vent Rib barrel fitted.  The barrels are fine, but I wasn't very happy with the way the rifle was packaged when I got it back. the shotgun barrel was on the frame with the BC foerend stuck on it (the forend is too small for that barrel by quite a bit so it would not draw up against the barrel) and the 22 Hornet barrel was in a box that was thrown in loose with the gun.  The sight on the Hornet barrel went through the box the barrel was in and though the outside box and was nearly knocked off the barrel - one ear was smacked pretty hard, damaging the sight.  I did call Remington to let them know and talked to Greg, who was having computer trouble and could not be of much help in the time I had, so I ended up sending him an email yesterday.  I'll see what I find out later when (or if) I hear back.  Has anyone else had these kind of problems when having a barrel fit? Other than that, I think I'm going to really like the Hornet barrel on the carbine and am seriously thinking about reaming it out to a K Hornet.

Sorry to hear that ,years ago sent in a 10ga  turkey for a new stock ,no problem. This sounds a little disturbing seeing i would like to send my Ultra Hunter 45/70 in for a trigger job and the foreend re fitted. Some one is dropping the ball and you definitely need to let them know!!!!

I have called and talked with Greg - I only have a half hour for lunch and he was having computer problems so I asked If I could send an email - That was last week - I haven't had a response yet.  I hope my case was an unusual one.  UPS was not kind to the box but it should have been packed better.

Packaging issues from H&R?

Back when Ilion first took over fitting I sent my Pardner in for a huntsman barrel and it came back a mess. The stock was ruined and the front sight smashed in the Huntsman barrel when I opened the box. But that wasn't packaging. The damage was done before it was boxed. They expressed me a new stock and sight when I called though....and I had thought stuff had gotten lots better since.

Well, I came home today and found a niice checkered forend that does fit the shotgun barrel in my mailbox as well as a replacement rear sight blade, so I guess I have to say that they did take care of my problems and did it the right way after all - I'm very pleased with the way they took care of it.....

Good for you SEK22H ..... receiving the new parts!

However this has been a chronic problem for some lazy azzes at the old and (apparently) new H&R shipping stations.  Your recent experience SEK22H, is not the first time I've heard about this kind of unnecessary crap from happening!

Also it causes an unnecessary waste of time as well as expense for H&R as well as the customer.

I believe this is the third (at least second) thread about the on-going problem or poor S&H when handing and mailing a customer's personal property back to him!

I can see where this CHRONIC PROBLEM would deter customers from ordering extra barrels from the barrel accessory program.

Maybe Brian and and H&R (or green) managment will read this thread?

Quite frankly, this repeated problem with H&R's shipping department is the single-biggest  fear I have if I ordered any new Handi-barrels.

when I sent my receiver in for a barrel I sent receiver only, no stock set. when it was returned it was sent in a regular box made for a complete gun , a couple extra pieces of cardboard added. inside of the box was pretty beat up but no damage to my receiver and new barrel. it could have been packed a lot better in my opinion.

Last October I sent in a frame for a 30-30 barrel.  The barrel was attached to the frame in a box for a complete rifle that was a bit too big for the contents.  The end of the barrel had about six layers of cardboard over it to help the fit.  And that was the only packing.  This had knocked the front sight all cockeyed and bent the blade.  I was going to scope it anyway so I simply removed it.  They also included a trigger lock that was loose in the box to hammer away at the receiver.  I love my Handi's but when I pay $150 or so for a barrel I expect a little better care.  I am not going to let this ruin my opinion until I give them another shot.  I really feel a need for a .357 Mag. barrel.  So perhaps its like dating a pretty girl?  You can kick me a couple of times before I notice.

I've ordered several acc barrels from H&R, the only problem I ever had was they damaged a BC stock prior to shipping since the missing chip wasn't in the shipping box, I sent them a pic of the damage, they immediately shipped me a new stock, no questions asked, it's hard to beat that service like that, if they make a mistake, they'll make it right.  ;)
