rooting a holly branch
« on: June 26, 2012, 01:46:08 AM »
I would like to start a few holly trees for friends. I have a nice holly in the front yard but don't really know how to go about it. If I cut a branch and put the cut end in a can of water will it root? If not how do I go about doing this?

Regards, & thanks for any help.

Plant the seeds or berries the tree has in the fall of the year. Is it American Holly? Youtube may have some good info.

Well i have experimented with several different ways to do this... They one that has worked so far is to cut a short branch off & trim off the bark on about the first 1" from the cut. Place in water for a few weeks and then transfer into potting soil. Rooting powder was sugested by a friend too but in a remote alaska bush village it's hard to find.  ;)
