McClellan is often criticized for not moving in his peninsular campaign but  a little know fact is thst his horses were sick. In 1862 in a letter to tthe War Dept he complained that they had sore feet and mouths and could not work. He felt they would recover but 4000 of them could not be worked at that time. This is apparently the first documented episode of Vesicular stomatitis
