Wow!  Do you mean they cut and edit?  ;D   As a retired TV guy I have even seen a reporter change the meaning of an intervire because "it makes a better story this way".  Nothing on TV is really reality so it's best to just sit back and enjoy the show or click the off switch.
I was always amazed at the hunting and fishing shows as I knew that all of the falling ducks and the fishting bass did not happen in an hour, or maybe even a day.  I once produced a crappie fishing video and had several days production to fill about 45 minutes.  I also had my crew on Kentucky Lake, Lake Barkley, Pymatuning Lake, Mosquito Lake and Leesville Lake.  I never made a profit after the cost of production.  :(  But it was a pretty good video with a lot of info.  :)

i guess we don't know what a swamp man is either? ;D

How is it possible that you dont know what a swampman is? "He who lives in the swamp"!

This is getting rediculous around here! Please take note of this and remember what one of them look like, okay?

I did notice when they told the young girl to get the nails and bring them, that she came out carrying a box of the same brand of nails that I use in my nail gun, then they say they are pulling and saving the cut nails to reuse, I would think they would use a roofing nail but again most viewers dont know the difference from a cut nail and a nail gun nail but it is a show with 10 minutes of show and 20 minutes trying to get us to buy something, now this week we will be intertained with them loading up guns, saddeling up horses and running a couple of supposed trespassers off the property.

I caught a couples minutes of this show yesterday and all I can say is, I add this show to a long list of stupid shows out there. These are a waste of my time too consider watching.

Just watched some of that show last night. Probably a rerun. Put it in the same category as WWE wrestling. Entertainment. At least you know that wrestling is scripted. AND, pretty girls. Not sure how many people that actually live in Montana, go out hunting antlers, and not carry a firearm. Have a battery go dead conveniently in the middle of nowhere, so your buddy has to take a hike. Eustace and partner chasing off a so called poacher. An then putting up no hunting signs to make sure it oesn't happen again. An, he even admitted that he had had trouble with poachers before. As far as the likes of Swamp People, again, not much reality, more entertainment. Just talked with a man a couple days ago, that lives in La. Said that anytime he went 'gator hunting, usually just shot them in the head, and not much commotion. But, when ya got hundreds of channels on tv, ya got to fill them with something. gypsyman

He's got a great thing going.  City slickers pay him good money to do crap work.

I watched the show for the first time last night. The genius in North Carolina said that he had been without electricity for over 30 years, but uses electricity run his sawmill. He's scared and under the gun to get his taxes paid, so that "great thing going" doesn't sound like it's workin very well. He also said he lives on about $2,000.00 a year. If that's good money to him, I'd hate to see his bad years.
And as someone else mentioned, his personal hygiene sucks too. I don't see him as much as a mountain man, as I do a "mis-fit".

I have to wonder when the mill shut down why his intake for the water generator turbine is 2 miles up stream unless he sends it off down a hill to pick up more speed for more power. I also see where in one show in Alaska where they were taking more salmon then the limit and I understand that you canot hunt on the same day you fly in to hunt, now I know they camped over night but in the segment where he goes back for a second hunt it does not show him spending the night first. something about killing polor bear from a plane was the reason for the law. I do know a fellow who flew in on a commercial jet was picked up and went hunting and killed I think a deer and was cought and fined. maybe Sourdough could explain this law if it is still in force.

All of these so called "reality" shows have flaws. If you pay close attention, there are many things the presence of a camera, time constrains and tape that ends up on the editing floor can throw the viewer for a loop. In the end, these shows are designed to entertain, not necessarily document true reality.

So, all that said, is it better than the typical Hollywood trash, I think yes. And yes, intelligent analysis from the viewer as is being offered here is needed......

Yep, the guy in North Carolina can easily pay the taxes.  20 years ago, my late FIL sold 70 acres of timber to a paper company and got $25,000.  This guy has what 1,000 acres?  He could easily sell some timber, not just wood from a sawmill and pay the taxes.  He seems to be an old hippy because of his long hair, etc.  Looks like he took one too many trips.  From letting someone else sight in your rifle, with only about 5 cartridges, and not shooting it yourself to see how it hits, to trying to lift up a barn with no regard for safety.

Then the guy in Alaska was worried about the weight limit on his plane with the caribou meat.  He should know how much his plane can carry, how much he, his wife, and his daughter weighs along with their clothing, tent, and rifles.  A simple bathroom scale will get you within a few lbs.  Also should have taken a scale to weigh the meat he was taking home.

The guy in Montana seems the most realistic.  However, they went in the woods and had a dead battery on the truck.  Didn't carry a weapon of any kind, only bear spray.  They can carry in Montana, and should have carried sidearms in bear and wolf country.

I think the shows' directors want to cut out as much shooting or gun showing as possible since they are from the east or left coast.
