Semi-Period Hog Hunt

I'm sure the experts will pick this apart but it's pretty cool I think.

I'm not a fan of Will Hayden because of the behind the scenes crap he's pulled.   Regardless, the video is great and well worth a watch, so thanks for posting it.  I never would have used dogs or ATV's in the field on a traditional hunt, my personal choice.

I started reenacting in 1970, western fur trade era mainly because I lived in the Rockies where they were, held their rendezvous'.   My first group was very strictly 100% PC (period correct), so that was a good base to build from.   But primitive shoots and the voo's vary from group to group, while some are very strict 100% PC, most are a more loose rendition of it, some even allowing tin teepee's.   But they are all getting back to basics to some degree, and are all a lot of fun to participate in.

As a very serious predator hunter for near five decades, the best of the best hunts were those using traditional muzzleloaders, wearing my fur trade persona, mouth calls and traditional gear I made myself, pitting my skills against a worthy adversary one on one.    I never hunted hogs with a muzzleloader, but did hunt deer, antelope, elk, bear, small game, upland birds and waterfowl traditional.

It's too bad traditional is dying out, and with mostly only us old geezers staying true to it.

It's as period correct as 95% of the reenactments, living history events, gear, and guns you'll see.

it's about as period correct as the average canned "hunt" ya see on these so-called reality shows but nowhere near as p/c as the average actual re-enactment.

I've attended the very best living history events and reenactments in the US since the mid 1980s.  Most are sub-standard to say the least.

"PC" is what a person makes it, and personal choice is just that, so it really doesn't matter if they vary... it is after all each person's choice.   When on my own I always tried to be as PC as possible, just like the very first group I ran with in the early 70's.  But since thaen most have certainly varied when attending events that others decide what will be acceptable.   My last freetrappers group was very loose when it came to PC, in persona/attire, gear, allowed tin teepee's away from the primitive camp, etc.   To them it was all about the family experience and primitive matches, so PC usually came last.   Didn't matter to them, didn't matter to me as they were all good folks worth spending some time with up to a couple of weekends a month and for their one or two of the week annual voo's   There were no PC groups within a reasonable drive.

I got a kick out the 4 hooves bubba.   Early on I knew Jeff Hengesbaugh, the original "modern" long rider, and was a good friend of John Prazzen and his brothers (John also very known for his welded Native American art, Gary for his bronze animal sculptures).   Anything you did with them you did PC, and with 4 hooves (except the Gore Society Pow Wow's).

To each his own...
