Choices of the two
« on: February 04, 2004, 08:23:58 AM »
Hello to All,
I'm looking to buy a new 4 wheeler and am considering the following. Yamaha Bruin 4x4 350, and Honda Rancher 350 4x4. Both models would be the Auto Trans. Low price I've found is from a place in TN at 4,199.00 each. The Yamaha has 2-4wd with push button, while the honda is 4wd all the time. I'm not interested in more $$$ for a bigger quad, really not interested in going used, either. Used for snow plowing and deer hauling. Thanks. Pete

I would take the Yamaha just because of the 2wd-4wd button.  I use 4wd about 1% or less of the time and they handle better in 2wd.

I think you will appreciate the option of running in 2WD for the times 4WD is not needed.  Should make the running gear last longer on the Yamaha than the Honda, simply because the front diff will not be working all of the time.  Steering is a bit easier in 2WD than 4WD also, and most folks can run 2WD for a good majority of their riding anyway.

:-D  If you are wanting to use the quad for plowing make sure it has a low range. The rancher for that price I doubt is the new AT model.  I have the 350 Rancher ES 4x4 which would work for plowing in 1st gear only.
Just a suggestion you might want to look at the Artic cat 400 auto. Price is about the same and they are real work horses.  I have the 500 auto 03 and its my plow horse and the wife rides it on the trails if its to muddy for her 2wd Polaris

you are correct, that price is not the AT model, but the ES 4x4 350 as you mentioned. I thought the ES was an auto trans?? No shifting?? Please correct me if I'm wrong. The reason I'm looking at the honda is......well it's a honda. If I should be looking at others for the same price please feel free to suggest others.

I have a Honda and a Yamaha.  Like you say, the Honda is a Honda and the motors are bulletproof.  I like my Yamaha just and well and am having just as much good luck with it.  Actually, I think the Yamaha's usually get better ratings than the Hondas now days.
