Mauser caliber chg confusion
« on: July 01, 2012, 07:17:57 AM »
I'm confused I looked up the OAL specs for the remington 7 mag and its about the same as the 30-06.
Will this cartridge function through a 1908 Brazilian receiver with a simple barrel change (let's ignore the bolt for now) or will I need some serious magazine re-working?
I got what I need to chng a brrel and will chg my shot-out 7x57 for a factory 7x57 so ONE of the two calibers I have always wanted will be covered. The other, 257 Roberts, is next but a7 mag would round my bolt gun arsenal out. Well, until I dind a 9.3 barrel I can afford.

As far as 9.3 barrels, did you check with Shaw or lothar Walther? I had Shaw do me a 35 Whelan imp. about 25 years ago. They did a bang up job for not much money

I on the Shaw site. I end up spending twice what a new gun costs. They have too many great options

Before you do a magnum on the Mauser have the receiver checked for hardness. I had one 1908 that suffered set back when changed to a magnum caliber. But just one I prefer the 1908 as it is one of the slickest actions to be found.

Before you go the 7 Mag root take a Loooooooog look at the 280 Rem or the 280 Rem AI. There is not that much REAL WORLD difference and with one of the 280s and the 7 mag and  you don't have to open up the bolt face and modify the extractor and fool with the box magazine when doing one of the 280s. Getting the 7 mag round to work through the Mauser action from the box is a pain in the A.
