Martini Cadet Firing pin.
« on: July 03, 2012, 10:02:55 PM »
Can anybody help me out with some info or opinion regarding the Martini Cadet firing pin ?  The question is ," How much of the pin would normally stick out of the block to engage the primer?" My K Hornet  started piercing primers .( same ammo no problem in another rifle) .
I disassembled the action , cleaned it and put it all back together . Now FTF . My guess is weak firing pin spring or worn out firing pin, but I am no expert . Does anyone know the "uncompressed length " for the spring ?   Hope I am on the right track :-\ .

When diagnosing problems in a mechanism one looks for change.. The pierced primers changed to FTF after disassembly. The pierced primers could be caused by a broken firing pin and the cleaning may have dislodged the broken tip which would of course cause the FTF. It would not have likely weakened the striker spring.. so?? With the bolt assembled and the striker at fired position protrusion may be measured... It is unlikely anything else would have changed to cause pierced primers in an otherwise proven load.
