I need recommendations on a rifle/caliber  for target/varmint hunting?  These a some of the rifles I have been looking at.  I would like to keep it to around $800.00.  I have been looking a .223 Rem. Or 22/250 rem.  These are some of the rifles I have been looking at; CZ 527 Varmint,  RUGER M77 Hawkeye Predator,  Remington 700 VLS and maybe a Kimber 84 Pro Varmint Any input would be appreciated,

It depends on what you are looking to do with the rifle , just general use or something more serious . Also don't overlook some of the new savage rifles that are on the market , like the Mod 25 LW Varmint , their MSRP is around $700 but they can be had for quite a bit less than that , leaving $$s for optic's and ammo .

+1 on Savages.  Here's the one I got...

A little more pricey, I think I paid around $760.  Main uses are groundhog hunting and to occaisionally compete in a 500 yd. F-class match at a local club.  I can't compete with the 6BR tube guns with Nightforces but I've made them a little bit nervous a couple of times.  Its a nice gun and it shoots everything I've tried well.  My only recommendation, if you desire to shoot long range target, would be a fast twist barrel that can handle heavier bullets..  The PC 10 has a 1:9 and mine shoots 77 Matchkings well, but not 80's.

What kind of target games are you shooting?  A CMP Service rifle or a NRA match rifle will kill varmits and win matches but not for less than $800.

Yep, like he said....what target shooting game are you wanting to do? The rules of that will dictate what rifle you use. And they'll all kill stuff.
