Whos grilling what today??
« on: July 04, 2012, 06:41:23 AM »
I put a new burner on my grill last summer and the baffle burnt in 2 a couple of years ago. I decided to try and make one. Got a cutter from my neighbor and FINALLY got a piece of galvanized roofing tin cut to fit, still have to put a bit more angle on it but it fits. Don't know if it will take the heat but I'll find out this evening, hope it doesn't buckle from the heat in the center.  I cooked chicken one windy day last week and the wind blew the fire out, no wind today, just HOT. I hope all of you have a great day today. Would there be any health concerns using galvanized tin from heating it from fumes to the meat??
Chicken, potato salad, my wifes is great, corn on the cob, REAL mac and cheese, leftover baked beans, and of course WATERMELON. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

I would have run the grill through a full cooking cycle to burn off the galvanize before I cooked over it.

I'm doing burgers for lunch and Drunken Steak with roastin ears for supper....in my smoker.  8)

Galvanized metal is HIGHLY TOXIC. Don't think I'd want it anywhere near my food. Ya really don't have to have those baffles. I've only owned one that had one in place and I never used it. I prolly still have it laying around somewhere. On my current grill there are angled baffles over each of the four heating elements.

I'll be grilling ribeye steaks later.

Pork loin,Italion sausage, hamburgers and mushrooms. My wife wanted me to make icecream  to go with the red raspberry crisp. My backs shot but she said my brother-in-law volunteered to man the crank.  I've fallen for that before. He usually shows up in time to lick the dasher. I know a storebought brand that runs a close second so that's what it's gonna be.

I decided to burn it good before using it. I fired it up on high and immediately found that I had not cleaned the crud from the sides and btm for a while, it got VERY HOT real fast. I shut it off, let it cool dwn then put it in the yard and gave it a good cleaning. I burned it good again after I cleaned it. SEveral folksaid that burning it would cure it.
Baffle kept the grease off the burner but the chkn still charred just a bit. Mighty good  eating. Sounds like we've all been blessed. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

Grilled two slabs of spareribs and about 5 pounds of country cut ribs for the family yesterday.   Also roasted ears of corn on the grill.  while I was outside the wimmins were inside and put together about a quart of coleslaw, bacon seasoned green beans, and a most delicious dutch apple pie.    Mmmmmm good.   A great day with the family.  :)
