45/70 encore
« on: February 04, 2004, 03:33:29 PM »
I am thinking of buying a 45/70 barrel for my encore.  I will be taking it on a bison hunt.  Any info appreciated. Thanks Whitetailhunter

Unless they have changed things you can only get it in a 24" tapered barrel, except for the Katahdin barrel. Doesn't make much sense to me but in factory barrels thats it. I have one of the 24" barrels and it is bruital to shoot with full power loads. If I were to do it again I would go with a full bull custom shop barrel around 22-24"and have it Magnaported.  KN

invest in the linbsaver recoil pad. Also see if you can find the post about a month ago about the trouble with scope mounting. If you put on a scope, use the Burris rings with the inserts so you can shim.
