Well, "lackluster accuracy" is not the platform when you are talking about TC Contender or Encore. While you may have had a bad barrel or ammo, far more often it's technique of the shooter all else being equal... you have to learn how to shoot them well, and when you do they are beyond acceptable.
Some of the most accurate firearms I've owned since I got my first Contender (soon after they came out), and one of the very first Encores out, have been my TC Contender's and Encore's. Many did ragged one hole to at least touching 5 shot groups at 100 yards, with lessor cartridges the same to at least 50 yards, and that includes in handgun length.
I have had a few TC factory barrels that were less then stellar out of the box, in part why I went to custom barrels mostly 30 years ago on the Contenders for long range. But I have had far many more factory barrels that were more than good enough for the task at hand than those that were not. Case in point re the Encore... when I got my first Encore, to be used as a handgun, it took buying three 15" 22-250 barrels to get one that shot well, and that last one shot very well. But the factory 15" 7BR and 12" 454 Casull I also started with were dead on right out of the box.
Technique and practice is the key to these platforms!
