Harrington and Richardson 999 "Sportsman"
« on: February 05, 2004, 02:32:54 AM »
Gentlemen

I have one of these.  I had been dreaming of one since I was a child, but had given up on finding it when I found it in a pawn shop.

I have no manual, and H&R does not support the pistols of the old H&R company.  Does anybody know where I can find an exploded drawing with part name and number?  I have given up finding anything on Numrich Arm's website without a part number!

Does anyone have an extra manual, or willing to copy one for me?

Thank you greatly.

I had one years ago, neat little gun. I made the mistake of trying to take it apart farther than I should. Taped out a pin if I remember right and the innerds kind of sprung out at me. I like to never got it back together again. Never took it apert again after that.   KN

I have one and really enjoy it, it's on my short list of guns that I will never sell.  Amen to the "don't take the innards apart" advice.  I spray mine out a couple of times a year and leave it at that.  My buddy, Mikey, once took one apart for a friend.  Now Mikey has been a very good "part time" gunsmith for years and is very good at this and he could not get it together (at least not so it would work) and had to enlist the aid of a professional.  Sorry I have no manual either, but congratulations on a good buy.  Hope you enjoy your's as much as I have mine.  44 Man

I have a book with the exploded view of the 999. It has a nice picture and list of all of the parts. I can scan it and send it your way. I used to have one of these revolvers and I got rid of it for some stupid reason. I recently aquired a H&R "22 special" 7 shot revolver, it has fixed sights and shoots a little to the right but still a fun gun to shoot. I guess you could call it the Grandfather of the 999. I plan on getting a Sportsman again soon. PM me your email address and I'll send you the picture.

i have a h&r 999 and really love it. i wouldn't want to try and take it apart even with a schematic. the extractor that comes up when you open and then snaps back down gives me the hint that maybe i shoundn't go there. i did get some stag  grips from eagle  fitted onto it and overall the revolver looks great. i wouldn't recommend it as your sole  .22 handgun that you plan to shoot all the time but its a great addition to a battery of  .22 handguns.

I have a photocopied owners manual as well if you need it.
I also wanted one since I was a kid. Found a near mint one last year and brought it home. This is one sweet looking and cool functioning gun. Actual performance /accuracy is just OK IMHO ( Suspected due to marginal trigger and ever loosening sights.)  Sure wish S&W /Ruger made a copy :-(
