Okay boyz... I'll go down to the man cave a select a barrel today... I wish I had a Profino, then the selection would be easy...   :-\   But both these 280's look real good.   ::)

I wonder why I bought 2 - 280's in the first place?   ???   I tell ya, gone deaf in one ear, damn near blind in one eye and senile to boot!   ::)

Heck Richard, I have 2 or 3 280s and I don't even shoot the round!
Same goes for the 7mm08 and a few others.
Might just start dumping some of my extras to help fund some of my other projects, like this 50-140 deal and a new motor for my 56 Chevy hardtop I am building!
I am getting tired of cleaning them all.
Besides, I think it's time to let someone else run with the big boys in gross numbers of Handis owned!!!
Keep a watch in the classifieds boys.
Let me know when we are ready to ship.
I need the shipping info for who ever is going to do these along with payment instructions.

BTW, I don't think ejector/extractor modification is included in the cost and I always remove them from the barrel before shipping.

Can you find out how much to modify the extractor and does he re-stamp the calliber on the barrel?
If so, how much for that?

He stamps the top of the barrel a few inches forward of the barrel swell, no charge, he will do the extractor/ejector work for $25, also for a smaller bore like the 280, he has to bore it twice to get to .50 cal, so he charges an extra $40 for that. He will accept a personal check, but holds it for 10 days.

So on a 45-70 BC barrel it is $310.00 total job.
Re-Bore
Re-Chamber
Re-Cut Extractor
Stamp the barrel
Return Shipping
Got it!

He Tim!  BikerBeans and I are working on something and I have a question.

If I send JES my 45-120 barrel will he cut it to 28" and restamp it with the cartridge name?

If he will cut/crown barrels, what are you guys going to do with your 32 inchers?

Do you think he will do a good job on the extractor/ejector or would we all be better off taking advantage of your generosity and experience?

Last question, Graf only has the 3.25 Basic 50 brass left.  Is it any good or should I wait and try to find some Starline?

I am goint to leave mine at 32".
4" don't make much difference to me.
I am letting Jesse do my ejector.
I trust Tim but I figure if Jesse messes it up then he has to fix it.
I think the basic brass will do fine, it just won't have the 140 stamp on it.

Mine's staying 32" too, goin in the mail tomorrow, will be there Monday. I dunno if he does cut and crowns, I know he doesn't turn barrels down cuz I asked, I'll have to call and ask on the cut n crown, prolly won't get a reply until Monday or Tuesday tho. He's done the ejector/extractor modifications before, so I don't see any reason why he wouldn't do a good job. I did ask about bore size, .512"-515" cast bullets are the norm.

Hmmm, at $1 each they're kinda spendy for fun and load work, but if they're accurate....!  ;D The 50BMG can push them over 4300fps according to one review at Midway, the other review is on the 50-95.  8)

The 300 grn. 50 cal barnes bullet isn't much longer than a plated round ball.  The 50-95 reviewer said it doesn't fly very accurate with a faster twist gun, he was using, IIRC, a 1:60 twist.  As always, your results may (will) be different.  How about trying one of Barnes offerings for the 50 BMG?  Gotta get that recoil number over 100 lbs. ;D

I don't think the twist alone is the problem, it's more likely the groove diameter, the .510" bullets are a bit loose in the .512" groove, maybe loose enough to strip in the faster rifling.

I'll let someone else play with the big 50BMG Barnes bullets at $1.50-$3 each!  :-X

I learned some more interesting info, the 500 Nitro Express 3" has nearly the same case capacity as the 50-140, in fact AG says they look much alike except for the length. Also, the Barnes #3 manual lists pretty much the same performance for the 500NE as the 50-140, 500NE pressure is 30kpsi. And Hodgdon as well as the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook both have data for the 50-140.

I been outa the loop for a day or so, but at least the soon to be 50-140 barrel should be on the way soon.   :D

Is the groove diameter going to be .512?  Nickle dime, but I was thinking .510.   :-\

I asked him what the groove diameter for the 50-140 is, his rifling is hard to measure cuz it's deeper on one side of the groove than the other, he didn't know how .510" jacketed bullets would shoot, but .512"-.515" cast bullets would be required.
