Just answered your PM Tim.  Sorry y'all had to wait on me.   :-[   But it should be in the mail today.  It's been ready to be mailed for days but I just now got back with BikerBeans... don't ask!   ;)    ;D

Which reminds me... I have to get a check in the mail to JES!  Should be $335 including the cut to 28" and crown; right?   ???

Since he's doing the 45-70 barrel instead of the 280, it would be $285 plus $25 for the cut and crown, but ya might wanta call him and let him know about the switch from the 280.  ;)

I forgot to ask, did any one find out what twist he is going to use?
Also, what weight bullet does he recommend?

Quick & LT,

Richards soon to be 50-140 barrel shipped to JES on 7/20/12. 8)

I wonder if JES will rebore/rechamber a 243 Superlite to 950 JDJ?!?!? :o ;) ;D

Jeep,

My kid is coming back home in Oct with a 20MM that coughs up about 5,000 rds a minute.  He is being selfish as he will not let me shoot it. :( >:(   Gave me some BS excuse about the gun being an important part on his F16 and the base CO prefers they stay attached to the plane. ::)

Them Co's can be rather narrow minded about a lot of things. Seems as though I have experienced their opinions before (and it was not fun) :'(
Congrat's on your son comming back in Oct. I know you are proud of him and we are too!
A 950 JDJ would be a lot of fun in a Handi. I know some ex-wives and politicans that I would love to see them shoot!
Could a 12ga USH be reamed out to 950?

Chamber wall on the USH might be a little thin for a maximum load on the 950 JDJ. :o ::) ;D

LT, Jesse does a 1:20" twist unless you want a different twist, an internet search revealed twist rates for the 50-140 from 14" to 35" with lots of 20"-26" mentioned, the Sharps company recommended a 1:20" twist for the 50-70 and 50-90, they never made a 50-140, said it kicked too much! ;D The Lyman Cast Bullet handbook lists their test barrel as 1:48", but they only list a 422gr bullet too.  Jesse shoots the Lee 450gr and 515gr and experiments with sizing .512"-.515" as I mentioned before.

BB,  I let him know you sent the barrel yesterday off yesterday, he said as soon as he has the third barrel, he'll order the reamer.

1:20 should stabilize some HEAVY bullets.

I'm thinking a 50-140 with 750 amaxes might be my next Handi build.  I would need to find someone who can rebore to .510 though.  And then make sure the twist is right.

After that, it's 600 or 700 Nitro!

QL says that bullet is 2.710" long and a 40kpsi load would push it to ~2000fps, not fast enough in the 1:20" twist according to JBM, you'd need a faster twist.

10# gun, 750 grain bullet, 2000 FPS, 120 grains of powder (guesstimate) gives >120 ft lbs of recoil energy.  You da man Tyler. 8)

Okay boys!  I'm back from the island!   ;D   I took today off to get caught up on everything and this is high up on the list.

The twist thing is interesting.  the .500 NE had a 1 in 15 twist for the standard 570 gr. projectile and those would be my guidelines.  As would a .510 inch bore for available jacketed bullets.  I figure those bullets at 2150fps with an operating pressure of 40,600psi would be just fine for me and the Handi!   ;D

But, since I will probably never need to even develop a load like that, I guess the reality is I would like to use cast bullets up to the 600 gr. range.   :-\   If 1 in 20 will do that, okay.  Otherwise the NE rate may be preferrable.  Yes?  No?   ???

I'll check with Jesse and see what he says.

BTW, I did order a box of those 300gr Barnes .510" punkin balls just for fun!  ;D Grafs has some 325gr 9.3mm bullets for the 9.3x62 on sale, so I added the Barnes bullets to the order.

Jesse has already bored LT's and my barrel, but he hadn't received the barrel from BB yet, he would make it a little tighter bore and maybe a slightly faster twist, he wasn't sure how much tighter or faster, I requested .510" and 1:15 or as close as he can get it.

Yup, package services is parcel post, it should be Priority in the service column. That's take a week at least.  :(  I'd request a refund for the difference.
