ruger #1 build cost
« on: July 11, 2012, 10:40:51 AM »
Im going to build a 460wby. But im thinking either using a mark v action(30-378)
.or a #1 action. Price for the mark v build is.

Donor rifle 1300$
Barrel and install etc 700$+
Stock 600$ .

Barrel with be 27" pacnor non taper straight cylinder. Stainless steel
Stock is accuracy innovations natural bamboo ..

The ruger though reminds me of africa or the buffalo sharps years.
How much would a ruger cost to do a build on?  Are all #1the actions same size?
How about stocks?  I love the blonde bamboo. Who could i ask gunsmith wise about this build?
Also was thinking if a ruger #1 wouldnt be much more of a build than tge markv
In theory its sound ",but in practice its flawed

In theory its sound ",but in practice its flawed

:)  Howdy! Sounds like a great project. However, you could probably buy a 460 Weatherby for about what it would cost to custom make one. Something to think about!  Good luck!  Always, Gene

I can't imagine what a rifle like that would be good for. Too big and heavy to hunt with, too much recoil for shooting from the bench. Why?

And yes, a new Mark V deluxe in 460 Wby is about $2300.

Also, I know it's been done but the 1"-16TPI threads on a Ruger #1 barrel shank don't leave much meat to support a cartridge that big around running at 60,000 psi.
