.44 or .45 Bullet in 209X50?
« on: February 05, 2004, 08:08:36 AM »
I have a brand new 209X50 which I plan to shoot with lead (cast) bullets in sabots and I need to order a bullet mould.  I was wondering, have people had better luck with the .44 cal bullets or the .45 cal bullets in sabots in the 209x50?

Jim,
I don't cast bullets, but I have had great results with 435 gr. Buffalo bullets. These are .45 cal.  pointed hollow point boat tails. They retain a tremendous amount of energy and velocity out to range.
If you can find a mould for these, buy it.

444, Thanks for the feedback.  Is the bullet you recommend for a .45 cal muzzle loader or for a sabot in a .50 cal?

If you send an e-mail to Benchrest300wm@aol.com  I'll send you a photo.
 These things are impressive.

Myself I went with the Hornady .45cal. XTP-MAG bullets in a .50 caliber sabot.  With 100gr. Triple 7 (loose) I was getting consistent 2" groups at 100 yards.

Nailed a nice 8-point on the opening day here in AR.  In the front of the right shoulder and out the left side ribcage.  The heart and lungs looked like they had been through a blender.  Oh, yeah, the buck dropped on the spot too.  Needless to say, this is my load from now on!
