was anything ever decided on this?

I'm game with my NEF 22 mag sporster.  Target scope mounted and ready to shoot. :gun4:

Same rules as last time?

NEF/H&R firearms only
3x5 card with 'X' on it
5 shot groups
Centerfire -  100 yards
rimfire/shotgun slug - 50 yards
muzzle loader - ? yards

Cards sent in by April?  Will everyone be thawed out by then?

edit: oh, who will be the measurer?

Scruffy last I heard Wlscott was going to  measure if I remember correctly. Sounds like fun. My 223 Ultra Varmint is shooting real small groups at 50 yards. Mostly thru the same hole. Hopefully I can keep it below a inch at a 100 yards if I do my part. Still have not made it yote hunting yet. The weathers been down right nasty. Been getting alot of freezeing rain and sleet and there is ice everywere.

Cool, I've been watching the membership list and wlscott registered this afternoon.

So if Wlscott is still interested in measuring:

NEF/H&R firearms only
3x5 card with 'X' on it
5 shot groups
Centerfire - 100 yards
rimfire/shotgun slug - 50 yards
muzzle loader - ? yards

Cards sent to Wlscott by April15th?

I know about the weather, it's snowed almost every day this week, and we're getting socked again right now.  All of the schools and colleges are closing, roads are a mess, snow is piling up.  I'm going to be leaving here in the next 15 minutes to drive between an hour and an hour and a half home (depending on road conditions, very bad or really very bad) and pick up the wife, drive an hour to an hour and a half back to town so she can work a 12 hour shift in the hospital (mother/baby floor), then drive an hour/hour and a half back home.  Probably pull a few people out of the ditches along the way...  Then tomorrow morning I'll be on the tractor for an hour or so blading a way out to the highway and drive back into town to pick her up and back home again.  I think I'm going to work from home tomorrow...  I'll be sick of driving bad roads by then....

But I'll take snow over ice any day!!!

Send the snow this way. Right now I'm listening to rain and sleet mixed. We have flood warnings out all over the place. :( At least the snow melts slowly. The roads are nothing but a glare of ice. Drive safley.

People: With the upheaval that befell us why not move the turn-in date to the end of May. That will give others time to find thier way here. This only a suggestion, everything else looks fine. Let's Roll :-D <>< Duce:

Hey fellers......I finally got my account activated.

I'd still be happy to grade the postal match cards if you'll have me.

You know what really ticks me off about H&R just shutting down like that?  All of the good info that was lost at the stroke of a key.

Anyone know if it's against the rules to post addresses here?  If not I will post my address again so that you can send me your cards.

Let me know, and it sure is good to be back in good and proper company again :D

Nope not against any rules. Not always smart to post a home address in any public place but that's your call. Personally I'd let folks e-mail me and then give it to them but as I said it is strictly your call on posting it.

I've  never been accused of being the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I think I'll take your advice on this one.

If you want in, email me a wscott@ptsi.net and I'll send my address back to you.

I think Wlscott should pick the date since he's grading the cards.  He knows his schedule, what's coming up for him, busy times, vacations, etc and can plan accordingly.

But it sounds like we can start shooting.

Weather permitting of course...

I second for Wiscott to to do the scoring if he wants, and I do hope you all can agree to roll back the time frame some. The end of May would be better for me,but I'll try for it on any date set.

Hey, great.....I pick tomorrow.  Hey look at that, I'm the only one who got a card in in time.....I WIN!!

I'll say April or May is fine with me with the understanding that in my experience it seems like no matter how far away the deadline is, most people always wait until the last day to send in a card.  Not complaining, just making an observation.

The rules were 50 yards off hand open sights or scope. We are using targets longcruise is mailing. If you are not on the list you need to get ahold of longcruisel, because deadline for him mailing targets is 13th.  should be a lot of fun. Maybe he can put the rules up over here.

BBF, I think you're talking about the dedicated black powder match that Long cruise was having.

In the postal match I don't think we really discussed black powder rules.

Here are the official rules for all categories:

Centerfire Rifle:
 (.223REM, .223 AI, .22-250, 25-06, 270WIN, .280 REM, 30-30, 30-06, 45-70?)
3X5 card for target
Range- 100 yards
Stable rest allowed
Optics allowed
If I get enough cards I will try to split this into to categories.  22 centerfire up to the quarter bores, and 270 and up.

Centerfire Pistol Calibers (357, 357 MAX, 44 MAG, .444 Marlin,  45-70?)
3X5 card for target
Range 50 yards
Stable rest allowed
Optics allowed

Rimfire rifle:
(.17 HRM, .22 RF, .22WRM)
3X5 card for Target
RAnge 50 yards
Stable rest allowed
Optics allowed

Shotgun:
(slug guns)
3X5 card for target
Range 50 yards
Stable rest allowed
Optics allowed

Muzzleloader:
(.50 cal sabot, or full caliber balls, and conicals)
3X5 card for target
Range 50 yards
STable rest allowed
Optics allowed

To be honest, I'm not real enthusiatic about counting pellet holes, so I'd really rather not do shot gun patterning.

Information to include on all cards:

Nickname on the board (required)
Real name (optional)
Date target was shot (required)
Weather conditions (required)
Firearm type; Centerfire, rimfire, shotgun, muzzleloader(required)
Firearm model; ie Ultra Varmit, Ultra Hunter, Handi Rifle etc (required)
Caliber (required)
Load Data (optional)
Optics (optional)
Modifications done to firearm (optional)
Gratuitous compliments or ego boosters to the judge (REQUIRED)

Prizes will be a GREAT BIG STEAMIN' BOWL OF JACK, AND BRAGGIN' RIGHTS!!!

Questions? Comments?  Smart remarks? (keep 'em to yourself  )

Thanks alot Wlscott!

Oh, I think the shotgun catagory was for slugs only, like jeff223's entrys with saboted slugs.  I agree, no shotshells for this.  We could have a seperate "turkey shoot" sometime if there was enough interest.

This sounds like a great deal of fun :-D .
Now for those of us H&R shooters doing things the "old fashion" way.  :?
I shoot both the 38-55 and 45-70 using ONLY cast lead and Black Powder out of my two H&R's , (Buffalo Classic and the Target).
Will you consider to give BPCR's a spot????..... I know I'm not alone and believe me the H&R's can and will hold their own with some damn fancy VERY expensive rifles... ...after all.....the Wesson and Richardson WAS one of the first on the Great Range.

What do you propose?  I'm not a bp centerfire rifle shooter so I don't know what range you guys shoot at.  Say a paper buffalo at 250 yards?     Might be expensive to mail though.

You let us know what would be appropriate and I'm sure we can work it out so everyone can be involved.

I was hoping that when wlscott got the cards in that he'd have enough big bore guys to put them in their own class.  But maybe splitting them out ahead of time might get more participation.

All you big bore guys sound off, what do you think for range and target.  Would bp and smokeless bigbores together be OK?

I guess when you think of it shooting a 3x5 card with an x on it wouldn't be much of sight picture with a peep sight at 100 yards!

Wlscott, if you have objections to this please chime in, you're the one doing all the work, and I don't think we should have dozens of catagories, but like I said, peeps and a 3x5 index card might not make much sence.

Oh, how's the idea of replacing shotgun slugs with big bore if we come up with some criteria.  there's only been one applicant for slug shooters that I know of (jeff223) and at $10 a 3x5 card (5 sabots x $2 a slug) I know why.... :(

Hopefully we'll hear from the big bore guys, I'm very interested to see what they're doing for accuracy!

I don't have a problem with a seperate category for BPCR shooters if there is enough of them to justify one.
