What do you think of Romney?
« on: July 13, 2012, 07:13:36 AM »
I realize he's the only option conservatives will have that stands a chance of being elected, so I guess he gets the conservative vote more or less by default.

But what do you think of the guy? I still think he's nothing but an east coast liberal that hates guns and has no inspirational leadership qualities. RomneyCare in Mass. has led to higher insurance costs and the state legislature has been in fire fighting mode since about 2006 to try to fix it. It is also cited as the reason for a loss of about 18,000 jobs in Mass, and a loss of about 25 billion in Mass. for investment.

I really expected this window of opportunity to attract one of the strong republican governors with political acumen and magnetic personality to rise to the occasion and run for president. That didn't happen. Maybe his focus on jobs/economy is an indication that he will have the Reagan-like focus on just a few issues, and delegate the rest. That's my best hope. At best, he may be a good administrator.

I still think Obama can beat him. Obama has more money than he is leading people to believe. He only mentions his campaign finances without mentioning the other financial advantages of an incumbent president, like large PAC dollars. And of course, the unions will spend every dime they have to make sure he gets re-elected. So anything recent about money that Obama may have mentioned is just an attempt to paint himself as the underdog.

Mitt is all the things you describe. I still think that with his nomination the RHINO's have given O his only shot at reelection.

I still wont put my approval on the guy by voting for him and if by some strange series of events he does get elected ill be able to say with smug distain "hey I didn't vote for the guy" when his true liberal colors come shining through.

I agree with both Conan and R.W. Dale.
I sometimes think that maybe conservatives should just sit this one out and let obama win.
Maybe then if there is still a republic that holds elections 4 years from now, the republicans will run a real conservative for prez. instead of these rino's like Mc Cain and Romney!
But the question is-Can America last 4 more years with obama at the controls?

That's a valid concern. That I reply to with another question.

So we hold our noses and enough flip floppers band togeather to elect Kerry. What do we do in four years when we have a liberal REPUBLICAN incumbent that needs to go?

I'm perfectly content to finish the fertilizer sandwich we've already eaten half of.

Typical short sightedness that's brought us here.

Lets explore this. One term Romney. Would get replaced by a Democrat. More liberal Romney = Obama replacement.

Anyone else sees how this solves NOTHING and only gives the short sighted that instant Obama kicking gratification they so crave.

Our rigged primary system is to blame for Romney where liberal blue states pick the Republican nominee and the other spineless candidates bow out before true conservatives even get to vote.

If we had a national primary Romney would not be our presidental nominee

Republicans were split 3-4 ways in every state.  Some had winner take all delegates.  Romney never got a majority of any contested state.  Santorium, Gingrich, Paul, Cain all got a fair amount of votes and delegates.  It probably would have been contested down to the wire if some states didn't have winner take all.  Several of the other cantidates could have gave their delegates to one of the remaining to defeat Romney.  Also, how many dems crossed over in open primary states to vote for Romney?  A lot of Republicans crossed over to vote for Obama in open states to keep Clinton out, which backfired.  Hillary Clinton might have been a better president IF she governed like Bill did from the middle.

I don't like Romney's religion, the people are nice, just don't like the doctrine.

I don't like what he did in Mass. even though he said it was not good for America.

I think Romney would be more sensitive to what the "people" want because of his change on healthcare.  Obama is hardcore far left dogmatic liberal and refuses to change anything back or to the right.  He even by-passes congress with executive orders which have to have a 2/3 majority in senate to overrule.

Romney is smart enough to know where his base lies and probably would not have any gun control.

Romney would be better on job creation and helping small business.

Romney's tenure would probably be more like Bush.  Hopefully he would keep us out of wars.

Obama's goal is to eventually take over health care completely, have back door gun control through the UN, and that could get serious for us.

Obama is staking the Supreme Court with far left liberals, not just moderates which Romney might put in place.  At least that would be better than the far left loonies Obama is putting in there.

Hold your nose and vote for Romney.  Don't really have another choice.  Maybe someone truely conservative will run against Romney in the primaries next time.

Romney was not my first choice, nor my second.......and he will not be my choice at all.

What do I think of him? He's a slimey politician with a PROVEN track record of selling America down the sewer.

Asking me to vote for him is like asking me to vote for child molester in order to get rid of a pedophile. :P :P :P :P :P

We will never have another conservative President unless he is installed by means other than election.  Conservatives are a tiny (and dieing) minority.  They don't have the votes.

One party spends all it's energy to convince the populace that the other party is not fit to govern. In time, they are both proven right.

Romney is a Keynesian, Statist, Fascist, Hack who will prove able to take this country over the fiscal cliff along with his cronies. Whether he is better than the other at this task, I do not know. But it is you who must decide which you would rather have in power when the fiscal cliff is reached because they will surely take the blame. It happens when interest rates begin to rise making the unbearable debt impossible to service and my best guess is less than four years. You can see the seeds now.

I will not vote for your destruction. I don't want to have to live with the guilt. Besides, my vote will not count. If my vote counted, and I did not vote, it would end in a tie.
The sole purpose of government is to protect your liberty. The Constitution is not to restrict the people, but to restrict government.  Ron Paul

The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first. - Thomas Jefferson

Been thinking the same thing. There is a big fiscal crises coming, there is no way around this debt. They can't tax their way out without a budget. No courage to slash government cut programs, and many of our new age Americans would rather burn their cities down than to endure any hardships. The party that is in control when we fall to the bottom will get the blame.  If ever you were going to walk away from your party and vote Conservative, now would be a good time. You have nothing to lose, and having Obama in there when it all crashes seems more fitting to me. Conservatives have lost big time already, we would be better forgetting about Obama and concentrating on flipping the house and senate, take all that over and you can be a real thorn in Obama's side. The power is in congress.
What do I think of Romney? I think Obama doesn't have anyone running against him, republican party did not learn a thing from the last election.

Getting rid of countless gov. agencies is a more than good idea, but as long as lobbyists are allowed in D.C., that ain't gonna happen. That he is a business man, is appealing, but deceptive. He is a "slicked up socialist", and more of the same. America is gettin what they asked for, and that's the crux of the matter.

Regardless of all the imperfections of the two candidates who actually have a chance to be President, one is a communist and the other one appears to be a capitalist.  Anyone with a brain shouldn't have a problem choosing a capitalist over a communist anywhere, anytime.
