Is there a difference in primers?
« on: January 01, 2003, 01:00:27 AM »
:D   Is there a difference in primers of one manufacturer as compared to another?   I've heard that one company's primers are harder? Is that a problem for guns with lightened hammer springs?

Is there an advantage to using magnum primers or should they be avoided completly?

re: www.castingstuff.com
They have a ribbon lube maker for those who want to lay out a thin strip of lube to put under your bullets.

I bought their hardness tester and really like it.  Would believe the ribbon lube maker is of equal quality

It doesent seem to matter how little of my home brew I pour on boiling water, when it hardens I have a mininum of 1/8th inch, I'd like to be the one controlling the thickness!!!  I liked the looks of their lube extruder. Simple and effective.  It's gonna have to go on my "want" list

The primer tests have been updated.  They are interesting and it's looking like maybe I will try a couple of new ones.

:-D  :D BF45.   I have that ribbon extruder and it works great.  Really helps when im using a grease cookie when im experamenting.  When I got my load developed fer that .50-140-700.i just turn da round upside down(after a wad over the powder) and make a grease cookie.   I have a tendancy to buy stuff before I really need it,but that critter is usefull .  Also ya can extrude a robbon and put it bewteen two pieces of wax paper and it will keep fer a long time......King

Thanks King. I've figured out how to get the thickness I want.  When the wife ain't looking, I use her rolling pin.   :)   I can put it in the freezer and it gets firm enough that I can break off strips and thumb it over the case.

How ya like that 700 grainer?  Darn near turns that rifle into a sholder fired artillery piece don't it?   :)
