Youth Superlight in 7-08? Price? Recoil? EDIT 07/14
« on: July 13, 2012, 08:44:15 AM »
I found a Handi in 7-08, youth configuration, with camoflauge synthetic stocks on it. GS Guy says it is new, it is a New York made gun so I know it is relatively new. Is this still a factory issue? Some kind of limited edition?

What would the recoil be like in this gun? I have a superlight in both  223 and 243 win. and was just wondering?

I really didn't want a rimless cartridge, but what is everyobody's consensus on this gun?

 THanks.

 Thanks again for the advise.

EDIT: Well I went back and got it. I got it for 200.00 out the door. It is in a factory box and has all the papers etc with it. It has a 20" barrel on it, SB27YC is the model number,

Not much more recoil than a 243. All depends on what you load it with. You definately have a wider selection of bullets with the 243 and 308 with basically same brass.

My wife, Patty, and I both have the newer extractor version.  I load hers with 115 gr bullets running about 2900 fps.  I load mine with 140 gr. BTs running a little faster. She can shoot it all day.  Hers is youth stocked synthetic and mine has a straight Lam.  Recoil isn't bad either the way.  Our 7mm-08s have not had any accuracy or extraction problems.  Good luck, it's a fine caliber; one of our favorites.

It could be factory, they made the SB2-7YC for a year or two, the 20" Superlight barrel was also available as an accessory barrel for a while, I have one, several others do also, they sell for the same price as other SB2 Handis, they shoot excellent.

Like Pete and Patty we have a few in our house. I started with the standard barrel and then when the lighter shorter version came out we bought two. one factory fitted and one from a member here, We use 120 gr bullets pushed quite slow (bottom book loads) and all three shoot less than an inch groups at 100 yds. The new light version is now my favorite Handi although the 38-55 is gaining ground on it but will never be as hunter friendly as that short 7-08.
If you shoot quite a bit and reload it is a great gun to own if you shoot a lot and dont reload I know the shells cost quite a bit more than other more common calibers here in town.
But My 7-08 has put the most meat in the freezer than any other rifle I own.
It is my daughters favorite rifle, and mine as well.  If you can swing it give it a chance, it is a very pleasant gun to shoot.  thejanitor
