Louisana gators
« on: July 14, 2012, 01:08:55 PM »
We watch swamp people and I am wondering if the gators are as heavy as the guy narrating the show claims they are. It seems to me if they were as heavy as he claims some of those guys would play hell getting them into the boat.

seems like i saw one episode where they claimed they had over 4000lbs of gators in the boat.ok 4000 lbs plus two guys,gear,bait etc? in a maybe 18 or 20 ft alum flatbottom? really? is that even possible?

the gators they claim to be 800 or more lbs really look more like maybe 350lbs at best.but heck i could be wrong.surely they would not egzagerate or dramatize on a reality show?

Thats kinda what I was thinking also. I know I've loaded deer into my truck that felt like 400lbs but was only about 150 lbs.

Im always hollerin at the tv because of this too...8 ft long and 1000lbs...really, 120lbs per foot?  Even at 100 lbs a ft seems to be far fetched.  One night they claimed those 2 boys killed a 1200 lb gator, yet the each grabbed a leg and drug it very easily over the bank of their pond, yeh right!
   One another note, look at the guns when they are shooting. They will switch from one gun to another in 3 different camera shots!  And from the looks of it, the 10s are about 8 foot and 8's are about 5-6 foot.  Just my 2 cents, Dave

Troy and Jason will be here in our town in two weeks, so I'll be sure and ask them.

     You fellas need to learn how to do Cajun math.  1+1=2 1/2, 2+2= 5 1/2, 4+4= 9 1/2, etc.
So, it's not hard to get 1200 lbs. out of a 400 lb. gator.  ;) ::) ;D

Gators slide in boats with low freeboards easily, now getting them out is another story. Looks like they have cranes to hoist them out at the market. But I agree, them gators look a lot smaller than they say they are on TV. It also looks like they shoot the same gator on quite a few episodes. If you had 2 or 3 10'+ gators in 18 foot flatboat I think they would dern near fill it up.

that show is the biggest load of baloney,  I like the one where Liz and the other little girl load the 13 ft gator by themselves. It only showes them struggling to get a ratchet strap on its head then cuts away and it is magically in the boat. Almost all of the measurements are greatly exaggerated and the majority of the gators put up no fight you just gently raise them to the surface and pop em, no fuss no muss, all of that splashing and thrashing is for the camera and almost always a 4-5 footer.

Just read an article last week where a guy killed a 13' 3" gator...it officially weighed less than 700....
