I havnt sighted it in past 25yrds since I put the scope on it. It holds pretty tight groups where it is though. As of yet I have not tried reloading for it. I think that is something I may try in the near future once I see how the groups hold out to 100yrds. The groups were pretty tight when it was open sights, so I have high hopes. The barrel is still at full length. I like the long barrel on this rifle.

To me the beauty with a woman is on the inside, then its a plus if she can cook.  If she likes guns too she's a keeper.  To me every woman is pretty but at some point we all get old right? When looking for a lifes partner out side looks means nothing.
You guys should grab every model mosin you see not just one.  There over $200 + on some guns for sale sights already.

i'm intrigued by them they seem to work no matter what and work pretty well too. the finns used their actions for one of one of the most accurate military rifles ever; the cartridge is over 100 yrs old and still current; they seem impossible to break; and with a hammer to beat open or closed the bolt, if necessary, i thinks they'll shoot forever.

oh, i forgot...they're inexpensive too!

I watched the movie, Enemies at the Gate, and got interested.  At the same time discovered the wonder of owning a C&R.  My first was a Bannerman conversion sporter (about WWI) of a 91/30.  Barrel was shot out.  Could not hit the side of a barn with that one.  Sold it.  Had a model 44 which was nice.  But it shot 8 inch groups at 20 yards.  Sold it.  Had a Model 59 that shot 2 inch groups at 50 yards and was talked out of it cause money was tight...still sobbing...Had a 91/30 that shot 4 inch groups at 65 yards with iron sights.  But wanted a sniper rifle.  Sold it.  Got the sniper version last week and need to clean off the cosmoline.  I bought the ultimate truck gun - sporter 91/30 from a gun smith in NC.  Just got back from the range.  I need to adjust the front sight.  Shoots 6" to the left at 25 yards.  Groups not that tight either - 4 inches at 25 yards?   I was shooting 3 different types of ammo to figure out which one it would like.  It looks good but shooting not so good.  But since most of these cost so little...it is fun to buy, shoot, adjust, sell, buy...shoot....Now I'm considering a Chinese model 53... Anybody have any luck with them?

I've got two.

I have 12, include 2 made in America on a Russian contract. A New England Westinghouse and a Remington. I also have a Winchester 95 that also shoots 7.62X54R made for the Russians. I own 1 Finn M39, 2 Finn captures, and the rest a assortment of 91/30's M38's, M44, and a 91/59.

I must like them for some reason. I mean compare that I got most of them for under $100 apiece, it is a powerful 30 caliber round, are accurate, and then compare them to the price of an American M1 Garand, or even a German K98 Mauser.

Ok, they are nice guns but are in no way at the same level as a Garand... The Garand probably is still a good value considering that it is a much better piece of engineering and they are tough to come by these days.  When you could get them for < $300, probably the best surplus buy ever.

What is the actual bore on the Mosin ?  Can it be easily reloaded with big game bullets, and if someday one wants..can it be rebored to a more standard caliber..30/06  or .308 for instance ?

Well that is the down side, most or at least mine needs a .312" bullet which don't give you many choices. I shoot the 174gr Hornady Interlock which shoots great and is a more than adequate hunting bullet.  I'm sure people have played with different conversions of it. But now you are putting money into a $90 gun....

Why is it a down side? Sure you have a few more choices with .308", But all my Mosin Nagants shoot .303 Brit (.311-.312") just fine, and there are plenty of choices there, also. Also some Mosins fire .308 pretty darn well, too.

Huh? Any .303 Brit bullet is 0.311-0.312" and there's LOTS of them. Plus many reloaders swear they use 0.308" bullets with no or not much loss of accuracy. As a matter of fact, the charts supplied with the Lee dies are ALL for 0.308" bullets.

Your bore diameter can vary but should be in the .311-.312 size rather than the 308 bore of the US 7.62x51 and 30-06. If you are really in doubt you should slug your bore and I'll betcha it slugs out to .311-.312, maybe even larger. Lots of .311 and 312 jacketed slugs out there and the 174 gn Hornady and 180 gn Sierra are two of them.  Woodleigh makes .311s, maybe .312s in 205 gn weight and you can also use the 125gn .311 slugs made for the 7.62x39 AK round - should make a pretty good small game and varmit round from the larger case.

Cheep, I bought one hex just to say I have one before they go up. Would really like to find one made by Remington before they go through the roof.

Doug

What, no love for the OTHER US made Mosin Nagant, The New England Westinghouse?

Heck I even got a Winchester 95 lever action chambered in 7.62X54. We were selling them to the Russians during WW I...a LEVER action trench gun. Russia defaulted payments during their Revolution. it looks like I got one made that never made it to Russia as it has no Russian proof marks or the part they added so you could use the stripper clips.

I'm not REALLY sure that it is much better engineering. Remember, Mosin Nagants have been made since 1891. Too many parts can go bad in a semi. Bolt actions are stronger and more reliable. Mud, ice, and snow won't even slow my Mosins down, while any and all of them could cause your Garand to cease to work.

That said, I do have 2 Garands. But only 2 because they are ten times more than most of my Mosins! Especially if you get one from anybody but the CMP, where both of mine DID come from.

I picked up some of the russian barnaul 203gr SP ammo when it was $4.95 a box of 20rds.  I figured i'd hunt with the mosin someday since its that affordable to hunt with.  I figured some surplus FMJ ammo with 200rds of boxer primer brass should last for my lifetime.

I really like what you did with your stock. It looks good! I forgot to post back after my last time out sighting in my rifles. I was able to get her within 3" groups @ 100yrds. I need to go back and tighten it up. I am usually out there with 3 to 4 rifles at a time to sight in. I was pressed for time so I dialed each of them in to where they were grouping near center and called it a day. Sometime before this years hunting season I will take them back out to clean it up.

Never said they were. But when I could buy like 7 Mosin Nagants for the price of one Garand, why not? By the way, I do have 2 Garands, a Springfield Armory and an H&R.

I haven't shot the milsurp stuff, but mine shoots really well with heavier reloads as described above.

I've wanted one of those since I knew they existed.  It's the one rifle on my bucket list I don't think will come my way...
