You have no experience in electronics or RF other than "your brother dealt in that sort of thing". Matt posted some excellent links with discussion from an M.I.T. professor regarding this technology (I'm sure you didn't bother reading them) and you still have no better answer than "Because I said so". You have not backed up your statements with anything that would lead us to believe that this technology isn't possible.

I'm not going to post my resume but my credentials include:
  • Currently employed as a cable engineer designing power, high speed data and fiber optic cabling
  • Worked on an M.I.T. research and development project that involved high powered laser technology along with high powered HF and microwave technology
  • Taught semiconductor and RF theory at a tech school.
I know a lot more about this subject than you obviously do. I can tell you with utmost certainty that this technology is very possible in the near future.

There are many subjects that I am not familiar with or an expert in. Common sense tells me to keep my mouth shut and not make bold statements about a subject that I know nothing about. You ought to try it sometime.
anyone can be anything on the WWW.  I read Matts links, it's all about explosive detection.  some neat stuff happening as I've already said.  but detecting grits and gravy???

This topic needs to be discussed and is important to our Freedoms.


Bugeye, no one is saying that the technology will be able to look in and "SEE" the grits and "GRAVY". What you do not seem to understand is that EVERYTHING has a chemical makeup to it that can be determined based on reflectivity and absorption of the lasers. This is then run through a computer algorithm which can guess what you ate that would give your stomach contents the chemical makeup it has at the time of the scan.
It is obvious by your postings that you are not up to date on the current stages of the laser technology being discussed. I would recommend reading up on these techs from the many papers being published every day on the advances.


Now, the fact our government is seeking tech that will do these things for use on US soil should put a sour taste in the mouth of anyone who cares about Liberty.

We   all   know   how   fragile   the  human   body   is  .   Being    bombarded   with   high   intensity   laser  seems   to   me  a   health   hazzard   in   the   making .

Oh no, wrong approach; next time I fly I might wrap mine in tinfoil, and when their machine beeps and they want to search me I'll identify myself as Silvermember, and I'll make them unwrap it...

 ::)   Yep; 'Privacy is a thing of the past' in this present day and time.  My wife has one of those fancy new iphone 4's, and I was looking at it the other day, and saw this icon that said 'Maps' on it.  So I ran my finger over the icon to see what it was, and lo; there was this blinking blib on a map with a notice that said, i was there.  So again I pass my finger over that blip and the map turns into an aerial picture with that little blip still blinking.  Next thing I know this picture is zooming in on the blip, and there's my house, my shop, and holy mackeral, my truck, and the tractor I was working on.  I nearly went hyper ventilative, cause I just knew it was going to show me taking a relief break behind the shop. :o
