6.5x55 Swede ejection
« on: July 16, 2012, 02:18:40 PM »
Having problems (maybe its just me) with ejection.
Seems to me the ejector is too short.  I purchased a new one and it was exactly the same as one in rifle when I purchased it.  With bolt all the way back it is just past bolt head.  Anyone have specs or know where I can find specs
so I can measure ?

Exactly what is your ejection problem?. Not ejecting at all or just every once in awhile. Most swedish parts are marked with a crown. I'm thinking that the ejector should extend at least an eighth of an inch our from the face of the bolt. Hope this helps. Frank

Thanks for the reply Frank.
Ejections is somewhere between just dropping it out of the action to having to finish the removal.  If you snap the bolt back hard, it will kick it out.  If you pull the bolt back at moderate speed, maybe it does, maybe it doesn't kick it clear of the action.
Ejector clears the head of the bolt approx 1/16 of an inch with the bolt all the way back.
I am basing ejection on a Persian mauser and a 1917 enfield.  Based on their performance, the Swede is at best fair.  Are there any specs for the ejector - OAL for example ?

Oki, this may sound wierd but check your extractor. I had a similar problem with another mauser type. Instead of kicking the shell out it would just fall off the bolt and sit there on top of the magazine. Replaced it and all was well.
Does the extractor look like it may have been modified?. Sometimes someone will do some grinding on the lip to make it so the extractor will snap over the rim when a shell is put directly into the chamber. I had a springfield that would do the same as you described. Again replacing it cured the problem. As you know when feeding from the mag the head of the shell will come up between the face of the bolt and behind the lip of the extractor. As mauser made it. Frank

That's likely the problem. If the ejector extends past the bolt face it should work fine, but the case has to be retained by the extractor until it impacts ejector.. Remember the extractor should not snap over the case rim when single loading. Just push on the extractor tail behind the extractor ring as the extractor jumps the rim.  A standard extractor will do this with little problem.. Also remember the mauser ejector handles the case however you wish. When the bolt is worked vigorously the case is thrown vigorously out of the action. If your at the bench just work the bolt carefully and the case will stay in the action where it can be easily picked out by hand. Check your extractor to clear up your problem.. I did have one Mexican mauser that had an extractor that had had the tail of the extractor bent to reduced it's tension (its the extractor tensioning spring) that acted the same way. I retensioned the extractor and all was well..

Thanks for the info...Extractor does look worn, and if memory serves me right I bought a spare extractor when I bought the new ejector.  Will have to try that tomorrow.
Will keep you posted on what happens.
