.22 lr vs .22 match
« on: February 05, 2004, 03:51:45 PM »
I should know this but I don't. What's the difference between a .22 lr and a .22 match barrel?
Thanks,
Bim

the match chamber is tighter. or the benz match chamber is in between the two.

I have read that you should not use the long cased bullets such as "Stingers" in a match barrel. The case can get pushed in farther than its supposed to theoreticaly go.   KN

Thank you for the replies. I want to get a .22 carbine barrel for my contender but I'm only finding the .22 match available.
Thank you again,

The above statement is so true. I you want to shoot any and all 22 ammo do not get a matched or Benz barrel. Some Remington ammo will not even go into these matched barrels. If you choose to shoot only quality ammo - go for the match barrel. I love mine - But - it sure hate Remington ammo.

Thank you Coyote 2
So what can you shoot out of it? What is a good quality ammo? What do you love about the barrel?

bentz chaimbers will shoot most standard ammo, thats why they were invented, they are a comprimise between standard and match. i have had three barrels, (or guns)with bentz chambers. i never tryed stingers, but the only ammo i had any trouble with was the tighter match ammo. it becomes less of an issue when your shooting a single shot, and more of a problem with a bolt or worse with a semi auto.

My match chamber contender barrel will take anything I have tried to put in it which has been Remington high velocity, CCI Mini Mags, and any target ammo.  It actually shoots CCI Mini Mags the best.  I have not tried any Stingers or hyper velocity ammo in it because I have heard that it does not work.

Bim: My barrel loves Wolf Match Ammo. I know there is better out there - but - my rifle does me proud and I am sure shoots way better than I can. I like the Benz barrel because of accuracy. The first time I shot Remington ammo (from Wally World) - it was the 500 loose pack - I had so many mis-fires and ammo that would just not go into the barrel. I had a set of calipers - and low and behold - that ammo was just a thousand bigger than my Wolf ammo. But the Benz barrel would not except it. You get what you pay for...if you can afford it.....always buy the best. Match or Benz will do you proud.

I gave up on the Remington bulk 500 packs also because of misfires in all my 22's.

Kids and I have used nothing but Remington bulk 22 lr for 10 years, in all types of handguns and rifles, and had no problems. But none of them have had match or special chambers.

Hey Coyote2,
I had the same issue with Remington Bulk 22s in my S&W Model 41 auto.  The mis-fires were numerous and aggrevating to say the least.

My point is that I don't think the mis-fire problem is pertinent to the Benz Barrel or any other barrel.  That might make you feel better about your barrel.

I rarely ever get a misfire from the Remington .22 550 hollow points. I shoot them in my 10-22. I haven't got a .22 barrel for my Contender yet. Like Bim said, all I seem to see are the match barrels.
