« on: July 22, 2012, 04:32:09 AM »
I saved for a while ,looked at a lot of rifles and bought a Browning short trac in .308. Haven't got to shoot it due to the hot weather. Has anyone shot one ? Are they good rifles, I'm having second thoughts. Could use some honest imput. Thanks ?

Country Boy, Of course it will be good it's a Browning!  :) You can't shoot it in hot weather? My guns always worked fine in any weather.

I have one in 308.  I found the blue box federals shoot best. I tried several different brands. I started to think the rifle was going to be average at best with accuracy being so-so. After about 200 rounds she started to tightening the groups.  What I also discovered was you need to keep the front bag close to the receiver and no way out on the end of the forearm.  Mine is now right at MOA @ 100.  I think that is about as good as someone can expect. While I have a couple of rifles that are much more accurate I'll be using my little 308 shortrack this deer season.

I have a BAR in 243 & 308, great rifles. The BAR is the best semi-auto hunting rifle commonly available at a somewhat reasonable price. This assumes one wants something larger than a 223 in an AR type.
