william good points , but (sorry) there are those less experinced than some here and if we don't at least present what we have learned ( often the hard way and at great expence) we would not be fair to other shooters. Opinion often is just that but in many cases it is an educated opinion. As example my opinion often differs on self defense guns from those who live in a less dangerous place. Same for those who hunt with rifles and not required to use buck shot or slugs. Our debate may help those less experinced weigh both sides.

I have the Ruger LC9 and it seems ok . Got it because it was like new looked unfired (who really knows ?) and it was $299.00 . I won't be looking for another brand anytime soon as this one works. If I were you I would see what fits your hand and how you carry it . If it also seems right in price then give it a try. Everything here id opinion mine included .

The answer to that is simple. The best compact 9mm is different for different people. First step is to figure out what your specific needs/desires are and rank them in order of importance. i.e.; deep concealability, large capacity, shootability, aesthetics, costs, etc. Then research, research, research until you have narrowed the field down to a few guns that best fit your needs/desire criteria. Now shoot as many of these as you can until you find the one that says take me home.

It's not unlike finding a mate. You have an idea in your head of what you are looking for in a mate. You date people who you think have the potential of fitting that idea until you find the one that you want to commit to.

I was looking at one the other day.
The trigger pull seemed a little long. How do you like your LC9? How is the recoil?

Good point about the trigger , gritty and long and somewhat hard at first. I have experince with 3 guns now and all had the trigger improve with shooting to a point it is quite acceptable . Recoil is nothing really . My wife and sister-in-law both shoot it with no complaints and ask to shoot more. SIL got her own and loves it.
Also with the small base plate on the magazine it fits my front pocket or rear pocket very well. Accuracy is goot to 15 yards as far as I shot it.
Now the honesty part ! I like the gun and plan to tote it some but I got my first J frame 35 years ago and just seem to still like it best. I know mo bullets in the LC9 but olf friends is old friends .
One consideration my SIL limp wristed the gun and had a FTF twice which were the only FTF or go bang . Something to consider depending on who will use the gun.

There's an after market trigger kit for the LC9 from Galloway that shortens the take up and the grit.

The M&P shield is the best because its the only compact 9 I have.

The thing is if I fired 5000 rounds in my 9 without a hitch, I would still see my Sp101 .357 as a more reliable gun.

The reason I bought the Shield was to be able to carry in church. I figured in the summer I could just drop it in my pocket, but it does appear a little big for that. It prints. Winter will be no problem, but summer carry in church is still a problem, and I'm not one that wants to go to church with my shirt tail not tucked. I have never carried in church before, but in today's world it just seems like there is a larger number of kooks running around. Even though my church is in a small town and its a small church. I would just feel better if I had a firearm with me. Also I'd bet a paycheck that no one else in my church brings a firearm with them. Do any of you guys carry in church? If you do what do you carry and how? I'm talking summer time wearing no sport or suit jacket. I have thought about an ankle holster. Which I think would work.

There was a gun rack in the church we went to as a kid, it was in the front hall and had a coat rack over the top of it.
Most oten there were unbrellas in it on rainy days. The church was built in the 1850's Down the street was a church built in the late 1600's Captain Kid carved his name in a pue

Kel-Tec P11 IWB most times. S&W I-frame IWB other times. And you might just lose a paycheck.

No Mike I never have, but I certainly plan to start. There are many people in the world that hate churches and Christians. How is a church any different than any other crowded place, to someone with ill intent? It would be like me asking, "You carry a gun in Walmart"? Or "you carry a gun in a movie theater"?

Yes Brett I could lose that paycheck, but I don't think I would. We have a small congregation of about on average 40-50 people, and I know them all. I realize one of the women could have one stuffed in their purse or one of the men might have a small .380. I guess a paycheck would be a large bet on something like that. Since I really couldn't afford to lose one.

Swampy, do you really do that? Take a firearm into church? With respect, based on the possibility that you take a gun to church and on other comments you've made, I would like to ask if you even go to church or if you are a Christian. I personally don't go very often, but I am a Christian an go infrequently, but my gun stays in the truck. The reasona I go to church are to be with other Christians. To me, it seems a place of peace and love and a place to hear the Word explained and know that for a space of time I am with others of a like mind.. I listen to preachers on the truck radio anytime I'm driving. I like to hear about salvation, and I like the feeling of having something in common with good people.
I don't consider myself good by any stretch. I'm actually pretty awful. Selfish and lazy. Lustful and prideful. Consume to much white wine. The thing is, I'm working on those defects and I don't want or need a gun during those times. Guns are for protection, I know, but they also involve violence. If you can't escape the need to defend your life in God's house, I reckon you can't escape it at all. I think it better not to go to church than to take a gun there. However, I suppose it depends on where you live. Maybe if I lived in a city, or my church was in a bad area, I might take it.

I don't believe real Christians go to church unless they have to. IMO a church is a very dangerous place. There's all kinds of stuff going on behind the scenes. Adultry tends to cause hard feelings and it's very common. Preachers ruining familes is another common problem. Stealing money from the widows and orphans tends to cause hard feelings as well. I attended many churches for 50 years. I've preached, led the song service, been a deacon, sound man, janitor, and baptised folks. The devil loves churches and spends most of his time there.

Unfortunately, the churches I have been involved with qualify for " Days of Our Lives" status. I now talk to God as I work around my place, or just sit on a rock.
