Nope never have hunted with either an NEF or H&R. I do however have one real old H&R .30-30 with full length stock that belonged to my best friend Billy Doss (now deceased). I've obtained a replacement back sight for it and returned it pretty much to original. It came to me with a scope base but it was apparently drilled and tapped wrong as you couldn't even get it on paper at 25 yards when scoped.

With the factory type irons I can shoot a decent group at 50 yards which is as far as I've tried. I do intend to use it to kill a deer in my friend's memory and then likely will retire it to a place of honor. He never used it on game as he wasn't able to hunt with it after buying it but he really liked the old rifle and had wanted to hunt with it. So I will for him.

Here is a photo of the rifle:

Nice rifle and a real treasure since it belonged to your best  freind. Hope to see a picture of you and the gun with a great deer. It would make him proud to be watching down on you and seeing his gun being hunted with. TC
