Need help with 58 cal H&R ...barrel badly pitted
« on: July 24, 2012, 05:30:49 AM »
I just bought a H&R Huntsman in 58 cal off of an internet seller. Unfortunately, the barrel is badly pitted and the breech plug has been corroded by the fouling too.  I did the best I could to clean and polish that bore but it's a gonner.  Does anyone bore and line these barrels?  I'd like to keep it at 58 but would go to 60 if that's what it took.

I'm making a .58 Huntsman barrel into a .625 bored 20 ga.  Then you can use standard wads etc.  There's a lot of stuff for .62 smoothbores in terms of balls etc. also.  Due to the returning popularity of the Northwest Trade Gun or Fusil De Chase style guns.  I am hoping to thread mine for a removable choke.  That way if I want to shoot Round balls, I just put in a cylinder bore choke, but if I want to shoot birdshot/buckshot, I can do that too with a tapered choke.  ;)
