I've looked at a few Mini-30s at shows over the years, but every time I researched them on line, I've read about recurrent problems, primarily very horrible accuracy (pie plate), as well as feeding issues and problems igniting the hard primer rounds..

Now that the new series 511s have been out for a while, and the Accu-struts have matured to a final product, and Wolf is selling stiffer hammer springs and heavy hammers, have these basically "cured" the previous problems with the Mini-30?

The newer rifles are really nice looking, though pretty expensive.  At least it would be nice to know that with these add-ons, they would shoot and function well.

  Any thoughts?

Best, Mannyrock

The 581 series are a heck of a lot better than the older model mini 30's. i bought one back in 1991 when they had 308 bores and the thinner profile barrel and it was minute of paper plate at 100  yards. This new one I have (2010) model seems to shoot light years ahead of the old model. I have only shot out to 50 yards so far with 1.5" groups using Remington SP ammo.
The herter's ammo shot better than that and functioned fine but I was looking to sight in with hunting ammo with a good expanding SP bullet.
Mine is a factory stock gun and I haven't done any mods to it.
Its not a target rifle but 2" groups at 100yards are obtainable even with the iron sights if you can shoot those at 100yards.
I mounted a 3x9 cheapo scope on mine for the time being but it shoots great for hunting and i doubt I'll get over a 100 yard shot with it. I've heard the accustrut will improve things as well.
the only issues i have heard about is that it may not ignite some of the harder berdan primed Rusky ammo but thats stuff is cheap anyways.
It shot the Cabelas Herter brand ammo just fine but I have shot less than 100 rds through it so far as I was sighting in the scope and letting it cool between each shot to get it sighted in on a cold barrel as it will be when i am out hunting.
Mine is the SS/Syn model 581 series with the taper barrel.
I have some Prvi Partizan 123gr RNSp ammo coming in to test next and hope it shoots well as it is a lot cheaper ($10/box) than the Remington $24/box Corelokt ammo. i have heard the Winchester Powerpoint ammo is great hunting ammo as well and around the same price as the Remington and Federal rounds. I've heard people have good results with the Rusky 123gr SP ammo or 154gr SP ammo as well.
I plan to reload it with 125/130/150 Spirepoint bullets for hunting to avoid the high cost of factory SP ammo.
You can get veolcities with the 150gr load about 100fps less than the 30-30 150gr loads which actually clock 2250fps out of 20" barreled lever actions and the pointed tips will over take the 30-30 round at 100 yards or less due to them not losing velocity as fast as the RN 30-30 ammo.
They also make an adjustable gas block for the mini 14/30 that allows you to adjust the gas metering and not throw your brass so far for reloading but mine is good mannered in that regard only throwing the brass 10-12ft from the shooting point.
You might try looking at the Perfectunion forums which is the place to go for anything related to Mini 14's or 30's.
