Hunters, Inc. 185# X-bow, 100 grain Thunderheads, 20" 2219 Easton XX75.  Catus's are known for checking out with a lot of noise, therefore it is bad if your wife hears a gunshot the night that Felix disappears. ;)

A stout "turkey-load" in a modified choke 20 gauge Pardner would work, or so I've heard... 8)

CCI .22lr Velocitor works for me.  But for a shotgun load I expect a 3" .410 with #4 shot would work just fine.

The various varmints that get in my garden get a chance to learn the first time, then get a permanent solution the second time.  First time around, I use a handloaded 12ga 2 3/4" shell loaded with 5grs of Unique, then a 8" lenght of Jute twine frayed into individual fibers and made into a ball and placed into the shell to act as a wad/seal, and then as many soft-air BBs as will fit in the shell and still allow the shell to be crimped.  The maximum range is about 75yds, but it is so weak that it barely went through newspaper when I tried it at that range, and much of it bounced off, so I feel safe using this in my yard.  Having said that, it stings, but doesn't kill at the 25-30yd max range I have to shoot across the yard to the garden.  This load is also quieter than my pelletgun when fired out of my NEF 12ga 27.5" modified barrel.

When a permanent solution is required, I like a No4Mk1 Enfield chambered in .303 British.  The load I use is 2.7 grs Unique pushing a 90gr Lee .314" SWC designed for the .32ACP, with no wadding or filler of any kind.  This load, when fired through the 25" barrel on the standard Enfield sounds like .22 CB caps fired through my .22 rifle, but is much more effective.  In fact, it has a tendency to overpenetrate on catus unwelcomus, possomus tresspassus, and squirrelius varmintus, so I only use this load when I am shooting from a raised platform, which just happened to mysteriously appear in my yard, allowing me to use the earth as a backstop.

I hope this helps.  Just remember that the longer barrels of my chosen tools allow the pressures to drop which in turn decreases the noise signature, in essence allowing the firearm to act like it's own suppressor, just like a longer barreled .22 rifle is quieter firing CB caps than, say, a pistol.  So if you choose to use these loads, the longer the barrel, the better for our purposes.  And dont think it has to be an Enfield either.  I have used the same load with several large cased, long barreled rifles like .30-06, .308, etc, .30-30 works also, but was louder in my 20" leveraction that the same load fired in a 25" Enfield, a 26" .30-06/.308, etc due to the smaller chamber/barrel volume on the .30-30 vs. the other rifles.  Hope this helps someone, should you need this information.

Since a lot of you guys have confessed i guess it is my turn ;D ( do like BB's answer for the 3 S's though)
I use a 410 3" shell loaded with surplus Flechettes

Flechettes U.S. Military Surplus One Pound Package About 950 Pieces 1" Hardened Steel Nails height=250
(available from cheaper than dirt and other places)Loaded over 14grs H110 powder.
Do not use this when the target is close to a wood fence it nails the target to the fence :o
I live in the country so i do not worry about a quite load, but I can assure you it is a Deadly accurate load within the 410 range.

The version I am referring to are the feral type that have been discarded by their owners by releasing a domestic animal into a setting they are not used to or know how to handle. They are easy to tell the difference between them and a neighbor's pet.The feral version are very underfed and carry disease include rabies, the females are either pregnant or fixing to be that way.The males are looking to keep the females as mentioned in the previous sentence.

+1,  I live in the boonies and I know all the pet cats that live on or visit my place.  These former pet cats that folks from the city like to dump out where I live are the problem.  These dumped katz have a high rate of feline leukemia and are poison to the barn cats if allowed to stay.

Ferals
Up on the Mogollon rim a rancher/farmer takes a $1000 dollor loss for every calf that goes down.  folks, mostly from Phoenix sometimes from Flagstaff drive way out into the woods to drop off unwanted pets "in the thier natural enviroment " of the big woods.  On both public and federal grazing lands these become feral canine and feline.  When varmint hunting take  down in close is easiet with #4 buck, at a distance 223 does the trick.  Yes I am shooting some kids pet, or someones pet. Fatercat up on the Mogollon Rim I can take you out and help you find all the pets you need, left there by those who would rather see them starve to death than accept responsibility assumed when the "childrens pet" was obtained.  my own pets are fenced, have vet care, fed well and neutered.  It is no fun and no great thrill to shoot the one's left to the tender mercies of nature.

remington nitro express #2 lead 3 1/2 ten ga.  H&R  32" barrel  modified . (  8)  it is a H&R shotgun forum)
Fatercat I get no pleasure  from having  to fix some (censored word)'s lack of for thought  that the cute little critter is going to need food and care for years and isn't man enough to eather have it put down  by a vet or take the time to find  it a proper home . they just asume I need 44 barn cats >:(  personally I would rather shoot the scum that drop animals but the  law doesn't allow  for that

Little story
We have a black and white cat named Burnie mac  Fixed gets annual trips to the vet etc.
Here is how he came to be our official gaurd cat.  We lived a little farther out than we do now.  I was mowing and watching the neighbors house  while they were working out of town .  A spring storm blew down a pick up full of limbs  I gathered them up and piled them up to burn later . In the mean time  some (the same censored word I use in the last post ) dropped 2 pregnant cats. I thought the coyotes had got them . I usually had to remove them because the tried to eat my chjckens. Comes labor day  the neighbor is home her daughters  their boy friends the wife and I are out side cooking out .  One of the boyfriends decides to light the brush pile..  there were 2 litters of kittens in the pile  1group 4-5 weeks and a group 2-3 weeks so now we have 4 women crying 2 wild feral cat caterwalling and we are trying to not bbq kittens
My wife worked her butt  off trying to save those kittens but the younger one were just to small . She cried at every one she lost . She saved the four older ones  found a place that place kittens  when told burnie would be hard to find a home for because he is mostly black  he became the the officail porch gaurd cat
So don't give me any  fecal material about dealing with feral cats  my way is a lot more humane than letting them starve or being eaten alive by coyotes or wild dogs which is the options the scum who dropped them condemned then to
