waknstack3 from Marlin Talk checing in as 140orbetter. got that from the size min. for the whitetails I harvest. when you get to my age you just do not need to kill a deer every year, so you are glad to wait for a bigger buck. Wak...errr. 140OB

Wak, Good to see a fellow Pennsylvanian and refugee from Marlin Talk here. I haven't thought about estimating weight before I shoot, with the new antler restriction, I'm too busy trying to count points before I shoot...not the easiest chore now that I'm getting older and am still too stubborn to replace my receiver sights with a scope.

dodgecity: Well I never said I kill alot of deer anymore either. But the "140 or better "is reference to antler score more than weight.
I just do not shoot little bucks anymore, but rather take does for the loins and sausage meat.
Now don't get me wrong I neither love or hate the AR implemented by Alt. But I am fortunate to own several hundred acres in Potter Co. that I manage for good bucks and gobblers,now that I'm retired and have the time to do so. 140OB

As I get older I look at it differently than say 35 yrs ago. IMHO it is all in how much it means to you.
I've hunted all my life mostly on public ground with the crowds. As I could afford to do it I leased or purchased some of the private lands in the area. Not wealthy by a long shot, I spent the money that others my age were spending on cruise ship travel, new " elite" autos, etc .
Today I own near 900 acres in NE Potter Co, and hear from these very same people," Hey, can I come hunting up state with you for the first couple days of the season?" I usually reply no but I'll swap you for it...let me use your new Mercedes for a couple of weeks and I'll let you hunt for three days.

Don't suppose your driving the Mercedes?

That's a lot of acres. My friend has 105 acres of farmland. I can hunt there if I want to. I just target shoot if he has the time to shoot with me. If not, I just say,"Hi" and stay out of his way. He's too busy working on his farm and I don't want to interupt him.

Sheila, back in the "70s" I drove my old Chevy truck up to Hollidaysburg every year to the Bair County Sportsmens Club for the annual "Tuckahoe Valley Militia Rendezvous." This is one of the earlier, well attended muzzleloading rifle shoots in the state. Those were shining times. Good friends, good competition, and good get to gathers, not to mention the impromptu parties in the period encampments. On the way, I also passed through the Nante Glo/ Johnstown area. Now that's some beautiful country. I also have fond remembrances of the reconstructed Fort Robedeau, and the bicentennial events there. There's a lot of history in your area, and a whole lot of fine folks. Judging by the weather we have had here in the foothills this winter, I imagine that you have had a bumper crop of snow and ice.
