Yeah, this $800 trillion figure has been bantered around.  Sometimes it is said that five banks made that much profit.  Other times they own that much in assets.  Put me down as a skeptic either way.  I think that much money could buy the entire earth several times over.
 
Even if the 800 trillion  is valid, how can that be looked at as a bad thing?  My thought is that I hope I own stock in those banks.

Top 1% earners pay 37% of the federal income tax
Top 1.1% to 5% pay 22% of the income tax
Top 5.1% to 10% pay 12% of the income tax
So that means that the top 10% pay for 71% of all federal income tax.
The middle, those in the 11% to 50% pay 27%
The bottom 50% only pay 2%

Yes, and what they will also say is only the rich get a benefit from a tax break. Well, no kidding...Sherlock.. if you dont pay any tax how can you get a benefit from a tax break?

I guess some of that bottom 50% that pay no tax, feel they are entitled to a return, and many of them get one. Some people will never be happy until all the rich guys are bankrupt. Even if they did turn the rich into poor it would not make one ounce of difference in helping the amount of debt that government has got us in. When our government spends money on things like paying researchers to study the effect of cocaine on Japanese quail, or spending money on training Chinese prostitutes how to drink responsibly. How would it ever make a difference from taxing rich people more than they are? It wouldn't make a difference, and the people that rail against the rich know it won't either. So my guess is its just plain ole envy.

The numbers I provided are for individual income earners. This is that piece of the annual federal tax revenue pie. The bottom line is, we already have a huge and disproportionate piece of that pie being paid by the top 50% income earners. They pay for 98% of this now. The bottom 50%, only pay 2%.
 
How much more do you want the top 50% to pay? And, what do you think is a fair % for that segment currently contributing 2%? With over a $1 trillion $$ annual budget deficit now, how much will your proposal contribute towards lowering this annual deficit?

Yes, he is turning this country into a Banana Republic. The real problem is obama is just spending way to much. So he wants to tax more so he can spend more. He needs more money so he can implement all his social transformation.

C4...did you bother to take the tax quiz in Post#1..?  I think we should return to a tax schedule and scenario similar to the Reagen years.....that will work for a while.  We need to stop corporate welfare, too, and adopt a corporate tax structure similar to China's. Capital gains and money made from money needs to be taxed just like regular income in this finance capitalism era. 52% of every tax dollar cannot be further spent on the M.I.C. industries....we need to spend or give consumers a chance to spend on production and consumer capitalism again.

Your numbers only apply to numbers of soldiers. The US currently flys over half the warplanes that have ever existed once more not true .would add that large scale wars are won in the factories to a point and much industry was shipped off shore under democrat rule . And, anyway, why do you support the party that got us into these limited response wars? because it is still the best choice . You mention one issue that you consider a mistake the other choice has made many mistakes . We were attacked on 9/11 and not again until your choice took over . 9/11 may not have happened if Clinton had of been more aggresive and taken BL when he had the chance. The Stimulus bill wasn't all that helpfull other than creating more debt and increasing the police state mentality. When we get to the point printing money doesn't work where will they get the money to support all the new police officers and maintain all the new fancy gear/cars that Obama bought them. The money will have to come from the state level, happy new taxes!

I don't need to take a tax test to know our taxation and spending are all screwed up. I also don't need to take a taxation test to know you purveyors of higher taxation without a discussion about cutting back spending is just a ridiculous discussion that's akin to circular references.
 
I suggest that the bottom 50% of income earners should pay double current rate in tax to pay down the annual $1T deficit. Corp tax should be reformed to close those loopholes that allow the new rate to be 2 to 3 basis pointed less than our competing nations, such as China, Germany, etc. These 2 changes along with the proposal to reduce federal spending to a level that allows us to meet an annual budget surplus equal to an amount that would allow us to pay off all the debt (currently at $16T) by the year 2023.

Why should we keep sending good money after bad? It is apparent that government is incapable of budgeting our money (especially the present admin). If you consider the debt government has put us in failure is a too nice a way of putting it.

Perhaps one of you "tax the heck out of rich people" guys want to comment on these numbers. They were posted earlier, and not a peep was made about them. All we have heard is that Corps and the rich people don't pay their share. I have seen numbers like this posted also in the past and they are never mentioned in any argument coming from the tax and spend crowd. I have never seen one of you make any statement about the amount of wasteful spending committed by government. Its always corps and the rich that don't pay enough. Even if we took all the rich peoples money it would not make a pimple on a gnats backside when it comes to satisfying governments hunger for money. All it would do is increase the size of government, and drive us into deeper debt. 
 
I see the 11% to 50% pays only 27% of taxes. Which is the middle class some of you claim are getting the shaft, because the rich don't pay enough. From these numbers I see the top 10% pay more income taxes than everyone else combined, and not just by a little bit.  From that alone its kind of absurd to say the rich don't pay their fair share.

One thing is when you tax a group more than they are willing to pay they either rebel or move on. Cooporations are moving out of the US in record numbers . That causes less jobs so workers pay less or no taxes and some draw wealfare or workers comp causing more expendture with less tax to cover it.

We are in a recession because loans were given that were not secure and housing cost were inflated . So you had loans on homes that people could not make payments and the cost of the loan was more than the value of the house it was on. I say this because many home builders had rules like any extra was a min of a thousand dollars even if it was changing paint color or up grading a faucet that cost the builder 75 dollars. As proof I offer that in one day new houses dropped in price over $50,000.00 in many areas . How much would intrest be on $50,000.00 over 30 years ?
Then add a war on terror . The systen was over stressed and inflated .
Add that no corrective measure other than increasing debt , govt dependcy and union pay back. Taxes can"t do anything but go higher .
