I've been in contact with this customer quite a bit and will fill you in with a bit more information.

The Sumatra is a very reasonably priced high power airgun, with multiple shot capability, as it is powered from an air tank.  The bullets are held in a 5 shot cylinder somewhat like a revolver, with a set up which prevents air escape around the cylinder.  This gentleman tells me that he is selling these bullets to a farmer in a foriegn country where firearms are outlawed, to be used to knock butcher hogs down.  The velocity given above was obtained on the high power setting, but the gun has enough power to flatten hogs on the half power setting!

Old farmers when I was a kid used a 22 rimfire rifle with short ammo for hog killing, but a lot of the hogs squealed and ran around the pen needing another shot or more, as power was inadaquate.  They all told me they wanted as little power as possible so the hog wouldn't be killed 'too dead', which whould cause them to not bleed well.

The reason for the 'old man ramble' here is that too much velocity can stop the heart quicker, presumably, but not power.  A slower but heavier bullet will have the milder knockdown of a short with far more athority.  This airgun delivers that on low power.   However, I've done all this rambling for the many who still believe in the 'short' concept, which I have never subscribed to, as I always used long rifles and decked them with the first shot, always.  This airgun , and 52 grain bullet, has about the same penetrating power as a high velocity long rifle, which I've used to knock many beef down with.  Critters up to 1500 pounds.  Larger than that I want a 22 magnum for up to 1800 pounds, and if a  mature bull that size and larger a heavier bulelt.  38 special is fine, or 357 or anything larger.

What I'm trying to get accross here is that perhaps more firearm owners should be looking into the modern high power airguns, just in case we no longer have our firearms someday, and maybe very soon.   D.C. is full of criminals who insist on being called 'the honorable' but are doing everyting in their power to diaarm us soon as possible.

My favorite calibers for an air gun to be used in the lower 48 is 25 to 30 caliber with velocity potential of 900 + fps using at least a 50 gr bullet for 25 and perhaps up to 100 gr in 30 caliber.
There are quite a few offerings giving this power potential and higher, with a considerably higher price tag methinks.  This customer likes the sumatra because of its low price tag, the five shot cylinder, and it's ability to deliver many shots at near full power without recharging.  He recharges his with a hand punp, but electric pumps are available.

Do a search on airguns and if you haven't ever done it before, you will find some VERY interesting reading for an evening or two.  If you never purchase one, it's worth the reading to know what is available.
